England make the breakthrough in a truly bizarre way.

Moeen Ali finds a bit of bite off the pitch and Sadeera Samarawickrama swipes in ungainly fashion across the line, trying to work it to mid-wicket.

The ball continues on its path and hits off-stump but rebounds back off Jos Buttler's gloves and into the stumps.

The England keeper just picks up the ball and throws it back at first, before suggesting it should be reviewed. Replays confirm it stuck the stumps and started to dislodge the bails before the ball rebounded back into the timbers.

Cue confused looks but Sadeera has to depart for a fine 54.

  6. Third umpirepublished at 19.1 overs

Oh my days. Moeen Ali has got one to really grip and beat Sadeera's swipe across the line before going on to strike off-stump and cannon back into the stumps off Jos Buttler's gloves.

Buttler doesn't know what has gone on but signals for a review.

The umpires refer it upstairs anyway. This will be out...

    Rashid 4-0-19-0

Adil Rashid responds well with four straight dot balls, the last a googly that bamboozles Niroshan Dickwella a tad as he taps it away off a leading edge.

Moeen Ali is switching ends and returning to the attack.

England are going around the park here. Their batsmen will be tested and not many of them have had time in the middle.

Dickwella gets low to fiercely sweep Rashid to the fence. That's the 19th four of the innings.

I think Sri Lanka will need over 300 to test England today.

    Dickwella 72, Sadeera 53

Wooop! Dickwella dismissively lobs Plunkett down the ground for a one-bounce four.

He then helps what would've been a wide down leg round the corner for four more. Clever shot.

England look very flat. Time for Ben Stokes? Sri Lanka's openers are playing brilliantly.

Alfie on The Cricket Social: "It started off when my brother and I heard the news of Alastair Cook's retirement. We were devastated he was retiring and in his last Test we decided to add extra spice to it and came to a gentleman's agreement.

"We decided that if Cook got a hundred I would get his Test batting average on my ankle. If he got a double hundred then my brother would have to name his son Alastair."

On The Cricket Social the team have been speaking to Alfie, the owner of the fine tattoo below.

You will be able to see it reads '45.35' and that is the precise final Test average of a certain Alastair Cook.

Alfie has been explaining how this all came as a result of a bet with his brother.

As a result we want to know any similar stories from you. Do you have any cricketing tattoos? Or maybe you've fallen foul on a cricket related bet?

    SL 122-0published at 17 overs

Adil Rashid ticks through another tidy over - the leg-spinner has been the pick of England's bowlers so far.

He finishes by gripping a googly into Sadeera's pads. Big appeal from the bowler and Jos Buttler behind the stumps.

Not given. And England decide against the review - that was perhaps sliding down.

    Time for drinks.

Dickwella flicks high but deep enough over mid-wicket to pick up four and beat the chasing Stokes.

He makes it back-to-back boundaries in fortuitous fashion, trying to swivel Plunkett round the corner and getting a top edge very fine for four more.

Sri Lanka's openers have played with freedom and real class. Aided by a quick outfield, they've punished anything loose from the England bowlers.

Is the freedom of this series already having been lost aiding the hosts?
