Much excitement in the Premadasa media centre at the prospect of an unusual dismissal. And it was Jason Roy who was given out obstructing the field against South Africa in a T20 last summer.

  2. Not outpublished at 2.3 overs

Indeed, the third umpire concurs that Roy did not impede the field deliberately.

Frustration for Sri Lanka but on we go.

  3. Third umpirepublished at 2.3 overs

Oh heck. A total mix-up between Roy and Buttler, who sends back his partner despite him being most of the way down the pitch.

Roy turns and hares back towards the striker's end and the throw to the keeper strikes him.

Sri Lanka appeal for obstructing the field and the umpires send it upstairs.

Roy wasn't looking at the ball though and should be fine.

  4. dropped catch

Roy dropped on 20published at 2.1 overs

Tough to call this a drop but it's a chance.

Isuru Udana is into the attack in place of Lasith Malinga and draws Jason Roy into a false shot with a slower ball first up.

The ball loops back high towards the bowler, who can only get his left hand to it and can't hold on. Would've been a blinder.

  6. Eng 29-0published at 2 overs

    Run rate 14.50

It can't be very fun seeing Jason Roy and Jos Buttler striding out to open against you.

Buttler drives through the gap wide of mid-off for another four.

  7. Eng 24-0published at 1.2 overs

    Ooooshk.

Jason Roy goes for the switch hit and just about sweeps it over the leaping Kusal Mendis at point. Four more.

  8. Eng 20-0published at 1.1 overs

Slow left-armer Amila Aponso will open from the other end and Jason Roy greets him by smacking the ball back down the ground for four.

  9. Eng 16-0published at 1 over

    Roy 11, Buttler 4

Roy flicks a single round the corner.

First ball for Jos Buttler then...

Crikey, what a shot that is. It's straight but over-pitched from Malinga and Buttler swishes his wrists to crisply drive it through the covers for four.

  10. Eng 11-0published at 0.4 overs

Malinga slings it very wide to concede an extra before a low full toss doesn't dupe Roy, who picks it up early to flick it off his legs for four.

Sri Lanka have taken out their slip.

Henry Thomas-Aldridge‏: How many games did Gareth Batty miss between his England performances, just out of curiosity?

Batty went 11 years between Test appearances for England, but 'just' seven years between his last ODI and his Test recall, during which England played 339 games in all formats.

  12. 6 runs

    Eng 6-0published at 0.2 overs

Whack. One ball to play himself in and then Jason Roy advances to clatter Lasith Malinga back over his head for six.

  13. Eng 0-0published at 0.1 overs

A hint of swing and Roy defends.

Oh good, reports of rain nearby. Had a horrid feeling we'd get through one match on this tour without it.

You've seen the David Warner story, right?

If not, feel free to pop out of this live text for a couple of minutes to give it a read.

Basically, the banned former Australia vice-captain walked off the field on 35 after being sledged in a grade cricket match, before returning to score 157.

Yes, David Warner - Mr Pot - objected to something another player - Mr Kettle - said to him on a cricket pitch.
