  1. 6 runs

    Eng 113-4published at 11.2 overs

A juicy long hop from Kamindu Mendis, and Ben Stokes clatters it over mid-wicket and into the stands for yet another six.

It's Moeen Ali who has joined Stokes at the crease, by the way, instead of Joe Denly. The groundstaff are about to spring into action, though...

Oh oh... Now they look a bit more urgent. I fear we may not be far from some rain.

    Roy c Dickwella b Sandakan 69 (Eng 107-4)

    Yes. Yes he has. Gone!

If Jason Roy had left that ball alone, it would have been signalled wide. Instead, he chased after it and got an under edge through to Dickwella behind the stumps.

And just for good measure, it's started raining.

Roy shaped to a wide delivery and ended up flinging his arms towards the ball.

Has he got a tiny bottom edge on the ball?

  5. England reviewpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 27 October 2018

Hello, Jason Roy's been given out caught behind!

He's not happy, though, and he's reviewing...

  6. 6 runs

    Eng 107-3published at 10.5 overs

    Oh, and again!

This time Jason Roy goes straight down the ground and the fielder on the boundary watches it sail over his head, before making a half-hearted attempt to grab it. "Rubbish," m'colleague Stephan Shemilt mutters.

  7. 6 runs

    Eng 101-3published at 10.4 overs

    Slog sweep!

Dearie me, Jason Roy has nailed that, hoicking the ball over the ropes. That's the hundred up for England.

Ground staff have started to move to positions in front of their blue tarpaulins... This may be entirely routine and they don't look overly urgent. Forgive us being a bit sensitive about the prospect of rain!

  9. Eng 95-3published at 10.3 overs

    And breathe...

Lakshan Sandakan serves up something short and wide, and Ben Stokes leans back and gratefully clobbers him for four.

  10. Eng 89-3published at 10 overs

I'm off for a lie down after that flurry of excitement.

    Here is Amy Lofthouse...

  11. dropped catch

Roy dropped on 53published at 9.5 overs

    This is silly now.

Jason Roy again skies one off a leading edge as he miscues the big drive.

Lakshan Sandakan sprints in and has to dive forward as he spills a tougher chance than the previous two.

But Roy has now been dropped four times and three times in nine balls!

  12. 50 runs

50 for Roypublished at 9.4 overs

Jason Roy clatters Kamindu Mendis into the stands for six to bring up his fifty.

Replays show that ball hit Ben Stokes in line and would've straighten to hit leg stump.

Would've been out with a review but Sri Lanka didn't send it upstairs.

Another poor decision from the on-field umpire really.

  14. Eng 74-3published at 9 overs

Huge appeal for lbw against Ben Stokes.

Not given. And Sri Lanka decide against the review. Looked very close.

  15. dropped catch

Roy dropped on 40published at 8.5 overs

Oh cripes. Sri Lanka might be well advised to get the groundstaff on in place of some of their fielders.

This is even worse from Dasun Shanaka, getting himself under a skied swipe by Jason Roy but making a right hash of it as another chance goes down.

  16. 6 runs

    Eng 73-3published at 8.4 overs

Sadeera might want to ask the groundsman for some catching tips.

Jason Roy gets all of this slog sweep and marmalises it over the mid-wicket boundary, where a member of the groundstaff takes a blinding catch.

  17. dropped catch

Roy dropped on 34published at 8.2 overs

    What a sitter.

Jason Roy is foxed by Lakshan Sandakan's wrong 'un and skies a top edge out to deep mid-wicket.

It hangs out there for an age but substitute fielder Sadeera Samarawickrama shells it. Oh dear.

  19. Eng 65-3published at 8 overs

    Roy 34, Stokes 1

Back to left-arm, which I think is his stronger suit. Though he's pretty equally good at both, which is just remarkable.

Another appeal, this time for caught behind as Stokes tries to glance an off-break fine. But it just hit the pad.

Stokes is bamboozled by this. The last ball is a low skidder into the pads - an appeal for lbw but not out. Again it was going down past leg.

A superb first over though - just three from it. Sri Lanka right back in this.

  20. Eng 63-3published at 7.2 overs

Sure enough, Kamindu switches arms after Roy picks up a single from the first.

He bowls off-spin from round the wicket to Stokes and slides it into the pads.

Brief appeal but nothing doing, that was sliding down leg.
