No more international bowling for Rangana Herath. At Galle you can have your picture taken with him next to this life sized photo.

Nice hoop and shape away from the left-handed batsman from Sam Curran, but a reasonably chance-less maiden to start England off.

It was a fantastic innings from Keaton Jennings. I think his game is a little flawed against seam bowling but against spin, as he showed in India, he has a fantastic range of strokes to prevent himself getting bogged down.

That reverse sweep really manipulates the field for instance. He was the ballast and foundation of the innings for England.

The highest successful fourth-innings run chase in Test history remains the 418 scored by West Indies to beat Australia in 2003. So we are either going to see a world record, a draw, or a first England win away from home in two years.

    Jennings 146, Curran 0

Will Keaton Jennings be a bit miffed that he didn't get to 150? I wonder.

A fine day for England you'd have to say. They lead by a whacking great 461.

  10. Postpublished at 11:03 Greenwich Mean Time 8 November 2018

Rangana Herath will never bowl in Test cricket again. Not the way he would have wanted to go out, but the spinner gets a bit of a guard of honour from his team mates before he leads Sri Lanka off the field.

...And that pace catches up with England's wicketkeeper in the end. One big hoik too far, this one goes more up than out, and drops into the waiting hands of Kusal Mendis at deep midwicket.

Excellent knock, a complete contrast to his hundred yesterday.

We think the declaration chat was a red herring how. There are 10 overs left in the day and we think that England will bat through now.

Ben Foakes is running at more than a run a ball since he came in...

If I was in this match right now, I would be spitting feathers at the prospect of a declaration. I would want another night in the hotel, another couple of hours at the crease tomorrow.

As a spectator, I think ' Joe Root, let's get this done and the match won'. We should tidy this up quicksharp.

Keaton Jennings is batting like a man who knows a declaration is on the cards. Teeing off.

Surely they'll let him get 150...?

Joe Root has got changed but Moeen Ali is still in his civvies. Sam Curran is padded up...

Bowling spin in Sri Lanka, you have to go out there determined to shine, make full use of turning pitches and come back with a hatful of wickets.

It is hot work and the seamers can't go too long in it. The spinners have to earn their coin and be the match-winners.
