Keaton Jennings wouldn't have been anywhere near the plane after this summer if I were selecting; very pleased to be proved wrong.

Pete Stanger: Jennings is clearly decent in sub-continental conditions and against spin, but on a quick wicket against decent pace he’s average at best. Can we just take him on sub-continent tours and leave him out the rest of the time?

Ben Thapa: Does this mean we can look forward to another summer of watching Jennings poking at the moving ball outside off stump?

Where do we go from here? No signs of a declaration, and I wouldn't expect one either. Still two full days to come after this, don't forget. Bat, bat, bat. Pile on the runs.

That's Keaton Jennning's PB in Tests. England lead by a whopping 391

    Jennings 112, Buttler 33

As I expected, Jos Buttler goes after the new ball and smacks it for four. A second bowler in two overs has a sore hand as Dilruwan Perera stops a ball back from Buttler and winces in pain.

Cricket balls are hard, kids. Keaton Jennings then almost comes unstuck as a faster ball sneaks between bat and pad. Jennings has equalled his highest score now of 112.

Sri Lanka take the new ball as Dhananjaya de Silva limps off for some treatment. It will be spinner Dilruwan Perera to take it.

  9. ouch!

Ouch indeed. If you were being super critical you could put that down as a caught and bowled chance, but Keaton Jennings absolutely middled it back.

Replays show that Dhananjaya de Silva got a touch, but it was right on the end of his thumb. He needs some treatment. That looks nasty.

It's after tea, England's opener has hit a ton, and the Barmy Army are in full voice. There's a new ball due, Jos Buttler might be asking Sri Lanka to take it.

    Put one in the fort!

Jennings nearly takes the head off Dhananjaya de Silva, smashing a drive back over the bowler's head. Did he get a hand to that?!

Having stepped out of Cook's huge shadow, Jennings has visibly blossomed. Great innings.

Always great to see Lancashire players do well for England but I suspect Starc, Cummins and co will be licking their lips at the prospect of bowling to Jennings in next summers Ashes.

A rare false shot, Jos Buttler done in the flight a touch and getting a leading edge, squirting the ball out to the covers when he was aiming through mid-wicket.

    England lead by 372

A huge lead building for England now as this pair bring up their 50 partnership. The highest successful run chase in Galle is only 99. Sri Lanka would need some sort of sporting miracle from here to prevent a first England away win in 13 attempts.

I think it is vindication for Ed Smith's selection policy. I am not sure that many people would have retained Keaton Jennings after this summer, but he has cashed in the credit that he built up in India a couple of years back when he looked very good in similar conditions.

After all that psychological build-up it must be hard to reset. The real masters were great at that.

Keaton Jennings works Akila Dananjaya square for a single. I'd imagine he may take a backseat for a bit now and let Jos Butller off the leash.
