  6. 6 runs

    Eng 293-5published at 89 overs

    Jennings 128, Foakes 26

Keaton Jennings sweeps the first ball after the drinks break but it's well cut out, and then Ben Foakes goes big!

Massive shot for six, that went very, very high indeed! He goes again - same again! Into a gazebo.

Two massive sixes from Foakes. Seventeen off the over. Akila Dananjaya getting a pasting.

Big smiles on the faces of the England fans, and the two batsmen too. Quite right. If you can't enjoy this what can you do?

It’s a sultry afternoon in Galle. It is deckchairs and picnic time with plenty of liquid refreshment for the thousands of England supporters paying homage here.

Most England fans feared they may not get a lot of play in this match with heavy rain in the preceding days and a poor forecast for the game itself. Yet unbelievably we look set for a third successive full day's play and the England fans are loving the Sri Lankan sunshine.

Many supporters are hoping the weather stays dry this evening for the Barmy Army beach party at Unawatuna close to the ground.

Like many Barmy Army events this is raising money for local charities and our own Jonathan Agnew is even making an appearance.

You may remember on the Cricket Social Aggers revealing how a similar event on the last tour turned into an all-nighter which ended with him in the sea trying to retrieve a missing mouthpiece lost by Barmy Army Trumpeter Billy Cooper.

Perhaps it will turn up tonight!

Into the last 15 overs of the day. What will the scoreline be at stumps?

A stifled, almost apologetic appeal for a catch off Keaton Jennings - the ball hit his hip. The opener fancies one of those 'daddy hundreds'. You don't get a chance like this very often. 200 overs of play left in the match.

Ben Foakes is playing fantastically. England are clearly taking the initiative at one end while Jennings rotates the strike at the other.

Foakes has shown he can score a backs-to-the-wall century in the first innings and is know looking like he can be Gilchrist-like in this situation.

Beautiful shot from Ben Foakes, a punch off the back foot which makes Mum's trip worthwhile. Have some of that! Down the track, huge six hoisted across midwicket. Brilliant shot!

We didn't see that in the first innings. Would have been grossly inappropriate. He's not here to make friends in the second innings though. If he bats like this who's puuting the brakes on in a middle order of Foakes, Stokes and Buttler?

Just the single from the over, which is handy as I'm reading quotes from an old economist.

    Magnificent reference there Lindsay.

Was it not Keynes who also said "If you owe your bank a hundred pounds, you have a problem. But if you owe a million, it has."

I live and die by that.

Why are people worrying about what Keaton may or may not do next summer? In the long run we're all dead, as JM Keynes said. Here and now is all there is, so just enjoy the moment. Keaton's doing great, and I'm loving it!

    Jennings 121, Foakes 1

It really was a superb piece of fielding, I wouldn't say it has much hope of affecting the result but you never know. Jos Buttler was playing well and could have gone on to score big.

Ben Foakes is off the mark with a confident stalk down the pitch. England lead by 400 (FOUR HUNDRED).

That is a fantastic catch. There have been a few instances in this series where the close fielders have been hit. Sri Lanka produce great close fielders and that is a great example.

What a catch that is! Absolutely brilliant at silly point from Kaushal Silva to snaffle one an inch from the grass.

It wasn't even an edge from Jos Buttler, he leaned forwards and played the ball down off the face of the bat. A superb catch.
