In total England added 101 runs in that session for just the loss of one wicket.

Ben Stokes made an excellent 62 and was the only England batsman to be dismissed.

This morning they struggled a little in losing Rory Burns and Moeen Ali in poor fashion, plus Joe Root.

England just got their heads down and played in that session. Jennings will have a cup of tea and change his shirt. He should feel on top of the world because of the message he has sent.

There will be question marks about his technique against quick bowling, he is a bit stiff and upright, but against the spin he plays it very well.

It has almost been a Cook-like innings

Keaton Jennings has gone 23 innings and almost two years without a Test hundred.

He has not scored one since his debut in Mumbai.

Good luck getting him to eat anything in the next 20 minutes.

    Not to be.

Again Jennings picks out the fielder.

Keaton Jennings goes to tea on 98 not out.

  6. Eng 212-4published at 72.4 overs

    Almost.

A sweep. Jennings picks out the fielder.

  7. Eng 212-4published at 72.3 overs

    Two dots.

There might only be three more balls before tea.

  8. Eng 212-4published at 72.1 overs

    Jennings 98, Buttler 14

    Well done, Jos.

    He gets one.

    Over to you, Keaton...

Sri Lanka are taking an age to start this next over. Are they trying to make sure there's only one more before tea?

Jennings could be made to wait.

Would solve some of the issues about playing too much cricket too...

Should Jennings' success here (plus Broad's omission), and the growing gulf between home and away conditions/results mean we should have one home team, and one touring team?

    Jennings 98, Buttler 13

Another sweep. This one conventional. One more to Jennings' total.

Jos Buttler rudely steals the strike at the end of the over.

    Jennings 97, Buttler 12

Still Jennings tries to reverse sweep. The Sri Lankans appeal for lbw. Not out.

  14. Eng 209-4published at 71 overs

    Jennings 97, Buttler 12

Oooooof. A quicker delivery from Dhananjaya causes my heart to skip a beat. For a minute I thought Jennings was going to cut but he just got the bat down in time to block.

He'll be on strike for the next over.

  15. Eng 207-4published at 70.1 overs

    Lead by 346

He's edging closer. Another easy drive from Jennings takes him to 96. Can he get there before tea?

  16. Eng 206-4published at 70 overs

    Jennings 95, Buttler 11

There should be no pressure on Jennings to do anything similar to what we have just seen from Buttler. He has hours to get to three figures.

He still reverse sweeps to Herath but that's a routine shot for the opener.

  17. dropped catch

Buttler dropped on 11published at 69 overs

But that's a missed chance! In two ways not just one.

Buttler goes again and this time he inside edges onto his pad and through to the keeper.

It would have been an outstanding catch or stumping but he managed neither.

  18. 6 runs

    Eng 205-4published at 68.4 overs

Boom. This is what Sri Lanka will be fearing.

Jos Buttler skips down and bangs Dhananjaya de Silva for six.

    The England 200 is up.

  19. Eng 199-4published at 68.2 overs

    Jennings 94, Buttler 5

Jennings moves to within one hit. There are just under 20 minutes until tea.

The two Ts for Keaton Jennings, technique and temperament, he has applied himself and played a fine innings.

There is still the questions over him facing fast bowlers but this will do his confidence the world of good.
