  1. Eng 198-4published at 68 overs

    Jennings 93, Buttler 5

After a busy start Jos Buttler has slowed down a little. He has five from 19 now. Maybe he's just trying to make sure Jennings is on strike at the end of the next over.

  2. Eng 198-4published at 67.2 overs

    Lead by 337

One more to Jennings. He's just knocking it around with these defensive fields. 93.

  3. Eng 197-4published at 67 overs

    Jennings 92, Buttler 5

The highest successful fourth-innings chase on this ground is 99. The highest fourth innings total full stop is 300.

England's lead is now over 330. You could argue they already have enough but I doubt there's any thought a declaration for the foreseeable. There's plenty of time left.

Jennings good work so far means there no slip and now when he finally does get a bit of an edge on one he gets three runs. Into the nineties he goes.

  4. Eng 192-4published at 66 overs

Jennings resists the the urge to sweep in this over from the wily Herath. His sole run is a push to mid-wicket which sees him keep the strike.

He's been out there for over four hours now but doesn't look flustered.

Thumbs up if you're getting nervous.

Keaton Jennings has scored 13 runs from reverse sweeps today, almost 10% of his entire Test runs have been reverse sweeps.

  6. Eng 191-4published at 65 overs

Ice creams and beer seem to be the order of the day for the English in the crowd. They're doing whatever they can to keep cool.

On the field, Perera bowls a decent maiden to Buttler. The England sometimes-wicketkeeper almost guided one into the hands of leg slip.

    Careful.

Jacques Kallis batted beautifully at three and performed the fourth seamer role for South Africa and I think Stokes has it in him to do the same. Worth starting when we are playing three spinners and Moeen can drop down to eight below Foakes. I like the balance that gives.

    Jennings 87, Buttler 4

Jos Buttler thumps a fine shot for one all along the ground to long off. That definitely deserved more.

Jennings tries to scamper one at the end of the over to keep the strike but Buttler sends him back.

We placed doubts on Keaton Jennings' head throughout the summer but he looks like a different player out there. He's hardly given Sri Lanka a chance.

If at first you don't succeed...

At the start of Dilruwan Perera''s latest over Keaton Jennings tries twice to reverse sweep but misses and almost gets bowled.

He kicks two away and then on the fifth ball connects properly with another reverse sweep and crunches it to the fence.

He's now on 87. Don't tell the Aussies.

It's simple, he's not facing an attack.

Keaton Jennings is a very static target against fast bowlers. He's tall, so he's less nimble, but he is much better against spin. Secondly, he uses his reach very well to get forwards, he looks more relaxed against spin.

  12. Eng 186-4published at 62 overs

    Jennings 83, Buttler 3

The field is still spread despite Buttler being at the start of his innings. He adds two more singles to keep things ticking over.

    Jennings moves to 83...

Why are we getting so high and mighty about who to leave out? Why not just enjoy the fact that for the first time in years we have 15 or 16 players all capable of succeeding at the highest level? Implement a sensible rotation policy for drops in form or different conditions and we could be the best Test side in the world.

I'd forgive Sri Lanka's fielders for shuddering as Jos Buttler comes out for the middle at number six. He could make this nasty for them here.

Buttler gets off the mark with an easy single first ball.

There's the answer. That's an absolute ripper. Not much Ben Stokes could do there.

The end of an excellent innings from England's all-rounder ends on 62 from 93 balls. Dilruwan Perera throws one full outside his leg stump and it hits the rough and turns sharply to hit the top of off.

Stokes just shakes his head and wanders off.

The Sri Lankans haven't played it well, these two guys are dominant and they haven't rotated the bowling. Rangana Herath hasn't bowled, they haven't tried a seamer...

Here is something you don't see very often. Niroshan Dickwella is standing down the leg side as Akila bowls outside Stokes' leg stump.

Marais Erasmus doesn't look to be very happy about the situation. Negative tactics or just bowling into the rough?

There he goes again! Ben Stokes' third six comes is another bash down the ground.

These two have played this perfectly. Jennings is just sitting in. Stokes played himself in and is now going through the cheers.
