  1. Tea - Eng 212-7published at 60 overs

    Curran 12, Rashid 29

Akila Dananjaya to bowl the final over before the interval.

Sam Curran and Adil Rashid exchange singles before the former misses out on a leg-break full toss.

Akila bowls an offie next up and bites just past Curran's outside edge, with the England all-rounder playing back.

He rocks back to a very short one last up and cuts away for a single.

And that is indeed time for tea.

Brisbane 2002. Hussain decides to bat first. England get lots of runs and win the Test. Simon Jones doesn't injure his knee and has a long Test career becoming England's leading wicket taker, specialising in fast, late swing.

Captain Lakmal continues and Rashid just blocks out or leaves all six balls. A maiden.

There should be just one more over before tea.

The delivery that got Moeen was just a bit quicker and flatter. The three innings Moeen has played so far on this tour, you have to scratch your head and wonder if he's alright.

Two poor dismissals at Galle and then he's played a wifty-wafty, nothing dismissal here.

  5. Eng 209-7published at 58 overs

Just a single from the over as Curran and Rashid cover up with the tea break imminent.

  7. What you've missedpublished at 09:04 Greenwich Mean Time 14 November 2018

Welcome to those just joining us. Here's what's happened...

    • England won the toss and elected to bat
    • Keaton Jennings' issues against pace returned - the opener prodding uncertainly at Suranga Lakmal to be caught behind for one
    • Ben Stokes played well in his new number three position before he missed a sharp turner to be out lbw on review
    • Joe Root defended loosely, leaving a gap between bat and pad to be bowled by slow left-armer Malinda Pushpakumara
    • Rory Burns hit a Test-best 43 before he nicked Akila Dananjaya to slip
    • Jos Buttler counter-attacked brilliantly, sweeping and reverse-sweeping with aplomb to bring up a 50 off as many balls, before he fell reverse-sweeping for 63.
    • Elsewhere, Moeen Ali played a loose shot to fall lbw and Ben Foakes was given out off a bottom edge but replays suggest he didn't hit it. He didn't review it though.
  8. Eng 208-7published at 57 overs

I mean, he's defending very well, but Sam Curran is surely not a Test match number three.

I'd love to watch Adil Rashid bat a three though.

A change of pace for Sri Lanka - captain Suranga Lakmal is back into the attack...

Curran dropped on sevenpublished at 55.5 overs

Sam Curran pushes at one from round the wicket from Akila Dananjaya and it catches a thick edge.

But Angelo Mathews can't get a hand to it at first slip as the ball flies past him, allowing Curran to scamper three and bring up the 200 for England.

    A very sharp chance.

  15. Eng 199-7published at 55 overs

More singles for Curran and Rashid, creeping the score up towards 200.

It's horrible scrutiny to be under when you know people are talking about your action, but Akila Dananjaya has bowled very well.

250 seems a long way away for England, still. Curran is keeping his head down, and Rashid is playing his shots.
