A block-and-bash innings from Chris Gayle, consisting of the vast majority of blocking. His fifty was brought up with 45 dot balls. He's taken a liking to Moeen Ali, hitting three thrilling sixes off him.

    And there goes Liam Plunkett!

We're going to need another new ball. This is a length delivery from Plunkett, sitting up nicely for Chris Gayle, who swings his arms and launches the ball over the stands and out of the ground.

Is that the third ball that's gone out of the ground today?

Liam Plunkett, who has 0-23 from his first four overs, is returning to the attack.

Arjun Singh: Gayle looks set for a century. If we lose this, Jason Roy’s drop will be why.

    Hope 52, Gayle 54

The hundred partnership is up between this pair, and they celebrate with an old-fashioned mid-pitch handshake. Lovely stuff.

Shai Hope swivels his wrists on a leisurely single to end the latest Ben Stokes over.

The fiftieth ODI half-century for Chris Gayle!

Gayle carves a thick edge down towards the third man boundary for four, and that brings up his half-century from 76 balls.

    Cheers, Jack.

This has been a cracking innings from Shai Hope - he's even managed to convince Chris Gayle to run a quick single every now and again.

Ben Stokes is about to wheel into his fourth over.

  8. WI 132-1published at 25 overs

    Gayle 49, Hope 50

Jason Roy dropped Chris Gayle on nine.

He now appears to be offering Moeen Ali bowling advice.

It better be very, very good advice.

Anyway...here's Amy Lofthouse to take you through the rest of the West Indies innings...

    Flippin' heck.

Chris Gayle has marmalised it out of the stadium over wide long on.

I only say the fielding position to give you a sense of where it flew, it wasn't really in the same continent as the players on the field.

    Another new ball required.

  10. 50 runs

50 for Hopepublished at 24.4 overs

Shai Hope tucks it round the corner for a single that takes him to his eighth ODI half-century.

And it's his quickest - taking 48 balls with five fours and one six.

A fine knock so far - can he convert?

    Will Moeen Ali bowl through?

He's on for his eighth over in a row.

Ben Stokes tests out Chris Gayle with a yorker but the Windies opener was ready for it, jamming his bat down in time.

Gayle then backs away and tries to slap it down the ground but Stokes sticks out his hand to make a fine stop.

Stokes goes short and Gayle rocks it round the corner for a single.

The England all-rounder then gets away with a bouncer that sailed over Shai Hope's head and should've been called wide on height.

Joe Prescott: I would play this team to start the World Cup, Jofra Archer in the squad but doesn't make my starting team.

    Gayle 39, Hope 47

Chris Gayle bends down to swipe Moeen Ali out to mid-wicket.

Jonny Bairstow is interested and puts in a diving effort but the ball zips past him and bounces once before crossing the rope.

  15. WI 114-1published at 22 overs

Chris Gayle has un-flipped the switch as he faces four dot balls before tapping a single off Ben Stokes.

If he gets out now, this has been a pretty bad innings. If he explodes at the end and anchors his side to a big total, it's been very crafty.

  16. Not outpublished at 20.3 overs

Yep, Chris Gayle's shrewd decision to start sliding his back leg once he realised he wasn't going to hit the ball ensured he was back in his crease in time.

  17. Third umpirepublished at 20.3 overs

Oooh. Chris Gayle skips down the pitch, misses it and Jos Buttler whips off the bails.

Gayle wasn't fully committed though and was already sliding his leg back towards the crease.

It looked like he made it back in time but we're going to check upstairs...

  18. 6 runs

    WI 110-1published at 20.2 overs

Has Chris Gayle flipped the switch?

He batters Moeen Ali into the stands over mid-wicket.

Chris Gayle goes briefly into aggressive mode, skipping down the pitch at Ben Stokes to pull it away.

He doesn't hit it cleanly at all but it dribbles far enough away from fielder for Gayle to trot two.
