This is the way Chris Gayle plays these days. More watchful early on in the innings - Hope has passed his score in just four balls - and then explode into life later on.
Gayle 9, Hope 10
Chris Gayle taps it round the corner for a single that brings up 50 for the hosts. And he's still in single figures!
Ooooooh. Moeen Ali gets a bit of turn and bounce to slide one past the outside edge of Gayle's bat.
A fine start from the off-spinner, conceding just two from the over.
Mark Wood has shown impressive accuracy so far for 0-18 off five overs.
Chris Woakes has been looser but his variations eventually made the breakthrough.
You feel there is definitely a place for the pace of Jofra Archer in this England ODI side though.
Here is Moeen Ali into the attack for Woakes...

Jofra Archer is under consideration for England - and other bowlers are under scrutiny.
Shai Hope's curious lack of runs in Test cricket may still be a thing but he grew into a fine ODI batsman last year.
And he immediately shows why, punching sumptuously down the ground for four before rolling his wrists to chip it over mid-wicket for another boundary.

Gayle 7, Hope 1
New man Shai Hope, who keeps for West Indies in ODIs, works his first ball round the corner for a single to get off the mark.
Chris Gayle then takes a quick single and England continue to throw to his end. He's back safe but the tourists reckon the 39-year-old is a run out candidate.

Having hit Woakes for six in his previous over, Campbell clearly was trying to cash in on the Warwickshire all-rounder's bowling, especially with the powerplay coming to an end. He struck it cleanly, but was straight down the throat of Moeen at deep square leg. Woakes gave a huge celebration - he was certainly glad to see the back of him.
Campbell c Moeen b Woakes (WI 38-1)
John Campbell's enterprising innings is over.
Chris Woakes rolls his fingers to bowl three off-cutters in a row and the third one does for the Windies opener.
It's shorter and Campbell pulls away but picks out Moeen Ali, who runs in from the boundary to take a fine catch.
Breakthrough for England. Can they get into this Windies middle order now?

West Indies have made a solid start, although Wood has been more impressive than Woakes.
Gayle 6, Campbell 30
A fine over from Mark Wood, creating chances and conceding just two from it.
And again! This time John Campbell chips it up off the splice and Mark Wood can't quite get there following in.
Chris Gayle tries to up the ante and flays wildly at one that misses the outside edge.
He then gets a leading edge trying to play the next into leg and the ball just about chips Eoin Morgan at cover.
Chris Woakes strays too full on the pads and John Campbell absolutely wallops the ball out over mid-wicket for six. What a hit.
Assistant coach Paul Farbrace will leave the England set-up at the end of this series to become sport director at Warwickshire.
Farbrace told Sky Sports: "The selfish part of me would love to have seen the Ashes and the World Cup through.
"I'd love to have seen the World Cup won and the Ashes won, but it doesn't always work out like that."
Gayle 4, Campbell 22
Change of angle for Mark Wood as he comes round the wicket at Chris Gayle.
Ooh. Wood zips one past the outside edge before a watchful Gayle just defends the last ball away.

Fordy: Baffling Root bats three in ODIs but won't for the Test team.
Good call by England not to review that lbw shout - it pitched outside leg stump so they would've lost their review.
John Campbell has 21 off 16, while Chris Gayle has 3 off 14 (yes those are the correct way round).
Gayle calls for a new bat - maybe that light one he chose to face Mark Wood with wasn't the right call.
Chris Woakes strays wide and John Campbell slashes unconvincingly at it but gets it up over the slips and away for four.
There is a brief mix up as Campbell wants a single but Chris Gayle sends him back. He's back in his crease before the throw comes in.
Bang! Campbell shrugs that off and clatters Woakes back down the ground for four. Great shot.
