    Fakhar c Wood b T Curran 57 (Pak 116-1)

    Breakthrough!

England grab their first wicket and it's not the express opening bowlers but Tom Curran with another clever slower ball.

Fakhar's eyes light up when Curran bowls a wide delivery but he mis-times it, slicing the ball high in the air to third man where Mark Wood runs in and takes a very good low catch.

You know your team is looking strong when you want the opposition to pile on as many runs as possible just so you can see some fireworks when they chase.

  3. Pak 115-0published at 19 overs

    Fakhar 57, Babar 53

That's a better over for Pakistan. Nine from it.

  4. Pak 111-0published at 18.2 overs

It seems Fakhar Zaman isn't too worried about attacking England's premier leg-spinner. He moves away from leg and lofts Adil Rashid over Joe Root's head for four down to mid-off.

Ste Hoare‏: This might sound silly and might be a bit premature but does anyone else think Pakistan are scoring too slowly considering the ground they're at and that they're facing England?

    The singles continue.

Adil Rashid is coming on for his first bowl...

There are two high-class players out in the middle. Fakhar Zaman is a real, clean striker of the ball.

  8. 50 runs

Two balls after his batting partner, opener Fakhar Zaman gets to his half century. His comes slightly quicker from 44 balls.

He's a class act, Babar Azam.

Polite applause from the near capacity Trent Bridge crowd. Babar Azam knocks a single to reach his fifty from 49 balls.

And at the end of the over drinks come onto the field.

Both teams will probably be content with the start. Pakistan have done well but England haven't been punished too badly on a very good pitch.

Still no wickets, though. Just Imam-ul-Haq retiring hurt when he was hit on the elbow by Mark Wood.

  12. Pak 101-0published at 17 overs

    Fakhar 49, Babar 47

Joe Denly continues. Pakistan bring their hundred up with another single but I'm still not sure about these tactics from the batsmen against Denly as they continue to knock it around patiently.

The visitors will need 380 or maybe 400 on this pitch and they're going to have to kick on against Adil Rashid or Moeen Ali now because Denly has bowled five overs for 27 runs.

Pakistan's highest ODI score is 399-1 against Zimbabwe in July last year. Fakhar Zaman made 210 not out off 156 balls, with Asif Ali hitting 50 off just 22 deliveries.

  14. Pak 96-0published at 16 overs

Too short from Tom Curran and this is where Fakhar Zaman likes it. He loves to drag a short, straight-ish delivery behind square on the leg side. It's four again.

How times have changed. Ramiz has just left saying this is a 400 wicket. In my day, this would have been a 250 wicket.

  16. Pak 89-0published at 15 overs

Nine come from that over but I don't think England will be too upset with Denly's spell so far. He's only going at 5.75 runs per over.

England have scored the highest two totals in ODI history in the last three years on this ground.

You just felt that big shot was coming. Babar was trying to hit it for six but he didn't quite get enough on it.

  18. Pak 87-0published at 14.3 overs

Denly gives his hands another blow as the wind whips at his shirt.

Finally Pakistan choose to attack England's part-time (ish) leg-spinner. He comes down the track and chips a four over mid-off.

Stokes wasn't looking at the keeper at all - he just wanted to get rid of the ball as quickly as possible. It ended up at extra cover.

  20. Pak 80-0published at 14 overs

    Fakhar 38, Babar 38

Ben Stokes makes a meal of a bit of fielding, slipping and sliding on the boundary edge and almost costing his side a boundary.

After gathering the ball he hurls it in with a grimace on his face. Annoyed with his fielding or carrying a slight niggle? Let's hope it's the first.

Tom Curran is mixing it up as ever. A back of the hand slower ball is nicely landed.
