Summary

  • England win by 54 runs - Woakes takes 5-54

  • Pakistan's collapse from 152-3 began with Rashid's fine run-out of Babar (80)

  • Leg-spinner then took excellent return catch to dismiss Malik

  • Buttler completes trio of special feats in field with superb run-out of Sarfaraz (97)

  • England 351-9: Root (84) & Morgan (76) put on 117 for third wicket

  1. Pak 94-3published at 17 overs

    Target 352

Tom Curran brilliantly took a run-out by booting the ball onto the stumps earlier in this series but this effort from Ben Stokes is more Ali Dia than David Silva. He misses by a long way although in fairness he was trying to kick it from about eight yards away. Not the best.

  2. Pak 91-3published at 16.3 overs

Ben Stokes stands with his arms folded halfway down the pitch after a perfectly good delivery is guided to the boundary off Sarfaraz's bat. The Pakistan captain hit that right under his nose. I say 'hit' but he more just let the ball roll off the bat and down to third man.

  3. drinks break

    Pak 84-3published at 16 overs

    Need 268 to win

Babar keeps the strike at the end of the over as drinks come onto the field.

Pakistan are a long way behind where England were at this stage but the runs did dry up for England in the last 20 overs. The visitors will be hoping for an innings in reverse.

Ben Stokes will consider that a chance - and yet it really wasn't. It was hit with such ferocity by Babar Azam.

  5. Pak 83-3published at 15.3 overs

There's a boundary for Babar. He manages to get one past Ben Stokes at backward point off Tom Curran. Stokes threw himself to his right but it looks like the ball was just past him before he could get there.

Pakistan are in a bit of a pickle. England were 118-2 at this stage, but fight they must.

  7. Pak 78-3published at 15 overs

Babar was criticised for batting too slowly in the last match when he chalked up a hundred. He has 42 from 47 balls today. After his early burst of boundaries things have slowed down.

England are bowling cross-seamers. They might just think they're getting a bit of bounce and grab in the surface.

  9. Pak 73-3published at 14 overs

    Target 352

Tom Curran has a bit of swagger in his walk and his arms pump in his run-up. He looks like he loves the big stage. I think he loves international cricket.

The Surrey bowler isn't known for his movement with the ball but this one seems to nip off the pitch a little and it beats the batsman.

    Another good over for England.

Hundreds and five-fors last in the memory banks of selectors. They buy you time with the team for a period. James Vince has had two great chances for a hundred this week, and he's missed out.

  11. Pak 69-3published at 13 overs

Chris Woakes has now got himself into Ben Stokes' good books with a fine diving stop to prevent Sarfaraz getting another boundary. Pakistan are only accumulating. They need to be careful the rate doesn't rise further from it's current position at seven and a bit.

There have been rumblings about the size (or lack) of the Headingley crowd. It's worth remembering that of the five grounds used in this series, only Headingley and The Oval have World Cup matches and an Ashes Test. That's a lot of cricket for a crowd outside of London to keep buying tickets for.

  13. Pak 65-3published at 12 overs

    Target 352

The crowd respond with applause after a much better second over from Tom Curran. It only costs a run.

Chris Woakes has done this well. Nip in with three wickets in the first two overs while it's moving a little and then have a breather when it's going dead straight.

The forecast doesn't suggest we'll have any problems. It never rains up north.

What's this forecast this afternoon? The clouds are quite dark.

  16. Pak 64-3published at 11 overs

    Target 352

Stokes grumbles and mutters to himself when a needless throw from backward point deflects off the stumps and allows Pakistan to sneak another single.

Who was the guilty party? It's the captain! Careful, Ben. Don't have too loud a moan.

Because Stokes is falling away with his action, he concedes runs to the right-handers. The batsmen know the ball won't shape away from them so you go with the angle, glance it, and it goes fine. It's a gift for a batsman to get one on the pads.

Ben Stokes concedes an awful lot of boundaries. His third ball is flicked away here by Sarfaraz.
