I never liked bowling with a cold ball. It seemed to make a difference - when it warmed up, it fit in the hand a little nicer.

If the Australian's request was "can you find us a wonder ball from your box of balls," then England have to be careful.
Burns 92, Denly 18
James Pattinson is getting this replacement ball to talk, hooping it past Joe Denly's outside edge.
England will have to be watchful against this cherry for a while.
Wrong Joe, Matthew.
That was a nice shot though.

Matthew Anson: Joe Denly (probably followed closely by Ben Stokes) has the best technique in this England side. Solid.
James Pattinson starts with a full toss that swings out of the hand and beyond Joe Denly's flay.
Shot! A half-volley next up is put away with aplomb for four.
Finally the selection is made.
Nathan Lyon is out of the attack, here comes James Pattinson.

It's been a slow day, hasn't it?

Come on, for goodness sake...
The umpires still continue to deliberate over which ball to select from the box.
Australia again are trying to get the ball changed.
This time it doesn't fit through the metal rings and a new cherry is being delivered.

When he does drive, and gets to the pitch of the ball, the bat comes through straight, and there you go. That was perfect.

For a man on 86, Rory Burns still looks shaky outside his off-stump at times - Pat Cummins zips it across and Burns' feet get stuck, his bat wafts down the ground and the ball just evades the outside edge.
He's much more secure on his pads of course, clipping through mid-wicket for a couple.
Hello! Burns finds his feet on the drive, showing great balance and timing to punch through the covers for four. He moves on to 92.
Burns 84, Denly 14
Rory Burns slashes a bit loosely at a ball that grips and is fortunate to see it drop in between point and cover before he jogs a single.

Oooft. Pat Cummins finds some life in the old ball, nipping one back between the inside edge of Joe Denly's bat and his front pad. Well bowled.

This is now Rory Burns' highest Test score.
Rory Burns taps a single off Pat Cummins to take him to 85.

I don't think Nathan Lyon has bowled particularly well, for the quality of performer he is, but I prefer that line, about a foot outside off stump. Anything too straight you can knock away, it's such a lifeless pitch.
