That happened five times in the early stages of the World Cup but then stopped happening and the bails started falling off.

Joe Root had the most angelic smile on his face looking at James Pattinson there.
Both James Pattinson and Joe Root can't help but laugh about that. Remarkable.

Tim Paine has picked up the offending bail to make sure it isn't glued down. The bail did wobble.
Well!
Joe Root is given a reprieve. The bail wobbled slightly but just fell back down into the groove. James Pattinson is not happy.

Unbelievable!
Oh, he's missed it!
It's hit the stump! That's amazing! The ball has missed the bat and just flicked the top of off stump!

Tim Paine is looking at the stump!
There was a noise, and Joe Root doesn't have the best record of using the reviews...
Out! Joe Root, caught behind!
Root reviews it straight away...
James Pattinson finds the edge of Root's bat and Root's head whips around, but he watches the ball go on the bounce to Steve Smith at second slip.
Nathan Lyon then has a horrible dive at gully, diving past the ball rather than on it, and Root nabs a couple of runs.
So, no Mark Wood all summer. We're still not sure what the Anderson situation is.
Wrap Jofra Archer in cotton wool, please.

Mark Wood, who injured his side during the World Cup final, had knee surgery on Tuesday and is out for the rest of the summer. That's a real shame.

Full from Peter Siddle but it's greeted with the full force of Rory Burns' bat, and he squeezes two runs through gully to bring up England's fifty.

Song idea for the Barmy Army, to the tune of the Oasis song Stop Crying Your Heart Out: When half of the ball, Has been scraped away, Everyone knows, That you must be an Aussie, You cheat when you want, But still get to tour away, Stop crying, Steven Smith Taken inspiration from the (formerly Frank Lampard’s) Derby County rendition of this after Spygate last season.

Burns 27, Root 7
There's still a bit of nibble there for James Pattinson, as Joe Root has a tiny fiddle outside his off stump.
Geoffrey Boycott
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special
The ball is not doing very much. This is perfect for England.
Joe Root does what Joe Root does - drops and runs for a quick single, putting the swooping Nathan Lyon under pressure as he fields.
Pattinson spears a delivery across Burns, who leaves it well alone, before Burns has to hustle to make a single. Travis Head swirls the ball in and, well. Burns would have been struggling to make his ground there.
Oh, Nathan Lyon is off. Change of ends, maybe?
James Pattinson is back on.

Ian Clarke: Leave Matt from Oxford alone. None of you clearly live in the Bristol area. He's allowed an extra four hours for the M5 from Bristol to Taunton to be at a stand still!!
Philip Trinder: People saying eight hours from Oxford to Cornwall is way too long clearly do not know what the roads are like down here at this time of year. It’s taken me seven hours from Bristol to Cornwall in August! Eight hours is good going!
