Eng 47-1published at 18 overs
Joe Root unfurls that little dab to backward point and gets himself a single and Rory Burns, wry grin on his face, defends stoutly to Matthew Wade at cover.
This is all rather sensible from England. I approve.
Burns 125*, Stokes 38*
Burns' maiden Test century
Survives lbw on 21 - out if reviewed
Root 57, Denly 18, Roy 10, Buttler 5
Two wickets for Pattinson
Australia 284: Smith 144, Broad 5-86

Of course it doesn't take 8 hours to get from Oxford to Cornwall. He is choosing to take 8 hours so he can listen to the cricket coverage uninterrupted.

Well bowled but Rory Burns didn't push at it, which was good from him.

If it's turning this much for Nathan Lyon on day two, they're really not going to want to be batting last on this pitch. And I'm not sure England fans collective nerves can take a tricky chase on a turning pitch.
Quicker from Lyon, finding Rory Burns' outside edge, but he has pressed forward so gently that the ball races off the face of the bat and down to third man for four.

On my walk to work yesterday morning I saw the Aussie team bus grind to a halt on account of a rogue traffic cone in the middle of the road. After what was clearly a long discussion about who should remove said cone, a disgruntled looking David Warner trudged off the coach and cast it aside. What could I block the bus with tomorrow morning?

I struggle to see how Peter Siddle gets in ahead of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. He might now get five wickets and people will send this back to me. He might get wickets in county cricket but a lot of county batsmen aren't very good.
Run scoring isn't easy. Joe Root inside edges onto his pad and the ball just about sneaks past the stumps, leaving Peter Siddle aghast at the other end.
Root stays on the back foot to defend, and that'll be a maiden.
Someone pointed out yesterday that Nathan Lyon bears more than a passing resemblance to Moby, and I'll never be able to take him seriously again.

Nathan Lyon hasn't been talked about loads in the build-up. Should we be more scared of the third most successful off-spinner in history?

That would've been out but Australia showed no interest in the review!
Burns 22, Root 5
Well then. That half-hearted lbw appeal off Nathan Lyon a minute ago? It was smacking into leg stump!
Lyon liked it but Tim Paine behind the stumps and Steve Smith at slip didn't look interested at all.
Nathan Lyon gets turned off his pads by Rory Burns for a couple, before Lyon is down on one knee, pleading for an lbw to the next delivery.
Oh! Burns goes deep into his crease, shaping to cut, and he somehow avoids edging through to Tim Paine. It's turning so much - we're only on day two!

Jason Roy's dismissal is exactly what we worry about with him. Balls in the corridor on a length - in white ball cricket he pushes hard at it or flashes on the up and he creams it all over the park. With the red ball, if it just bounces, as it did, you bring the slips into play.
Unless he changes to a more careful style of play, I don't think he will succeed in Test cricket.
Time for a drink. Here's what has happened this morning.

Good from Peter Siddle. Boos as he heads towards his fielding position in front of the Hollies, he responds with a smile and a thumbs-up.

Peter Siddle wasn't that fussed by that lbw shout after all.

And Peter Siddle ends the over with a loud lbw appeal against Joe Root!
Too high? Aleem Dar shakes his head, and Root has that Root grin on his face. He might have got an inside edge on it as well.
Rory Burns clubs a drive off P Siddy and only a terrific, tumbling stop from Matthew Wade on the edge of the boundary rope stops him picking up four runs.
Oh! Joe Root fends at a Siddle delivery, feet glued to the ground, bat prodding forward, and the ball just shapes away from the outside edge.

Just getting into cricket so forgive my ignorance, can England replace Anderson with a different bowler for the second innings if he's not fit?
Tom, London
No, they can't, sadly.
