Australia were uncharacteristically ragged with the new ball this morning.

Nathan Lyon remains a real threat, particularly to the left-handers.

But you sense the tourists really needed to get off the park there to regroup over lunch.

Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes need to reset and go again. They've been excellent so far.

At lunch, England walk off with a chance of victory.

    A definite chance of victory.

  3. Lunch - Eng 238-4published at 96 overs

    Need 121 more to win

Jonny Bairstow punches the last ball of the session off the back foot and out to the boundary rider for a single.

Headingley on its feet, a standing ovation for Bairstow and Ben Stokes as they stride off for lunch.

A stirring effort from England this morning.

  4. Eng 237-4published at 95.4 overs

Marnus Labuschagne twirls it down and Ben Stokes flicks it down between the hands of short leg for a single.

Not a chance of a catch, it bounced well before the man.

  5. Eng 236-4published at 95.1 overs

And Jonny Bairstow rocks back to push into a gap on the off side for a single.

  6. Postpublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 25 August 2019

Marnus Labuschagne is on to bowl his leg spin after only 15 overs of the new ball.

    Last over before lunch.

Do not try and slog him, Jonny Bairstow.

  7. Eng 235-4published at 95 overs

    Lyon 26-3-57-1

Nathan Lyon v Ben Stokes. This is the battle.

It's really tough for the left-hander against such an accomplished off-spinner.

But Stokes survives a maiden over.

    Is anyone NOT on holiday?!

Ross Lovell: Deep in the woods on Dartmoor. No signal. Found pub. Got WiFi. Refresh. Refresh. Refresh. Most antisocial pub lunch. Not even a little bit sorry.

Tom Harmer: Willing Stokes on from the Greek island of Kefalonia, ditched the family turtle spotting tour to listen to the cricket!

Mark: Sitting by the pool in the Algarve listening to TMS. Wife and children declare we’re going to the beach for the afternoon. I know there is no signal on the beach. Excuses required to bail me out from having to leave my current position please.

    Stokes 31, Bairstow 32

Whoever taught (or reminded) Jonny Bairstow to leave and block the ball like this overnight deserves the freedom of the city of Leeds.

A maiden from Pat Cummins. This England pair trying to make sure they get through to lunch.

Re Matt at 12.31. Don't be so hard on yourself. Listening to TMS in the darkness of the cinema is a perfect way to get through Toy Story. Try not to celebrate too hard though as that would indeed make you look an idiot.

    That turned a long way.

  13. Eng 235-4published at 93 overs

    Target 359

Nathan Lyon is getting it to spit though and England have to be really careful.

Jonny Bairstow loops it up off the pad just over short leg and takes the single.

Joel Wilson gives it as runs but replays suggest it missed the bat, so at least Bairstow would not have been out if it had gone to hand.

It's a good thing he hit that because it looked like it was going to hit the stumps.

    Remarkable.

Ben Stokes is distracted by something behind the bowler's arm and Tim Robinson is sent out to sort it out.

It turns out it's a reflection off a woman's watch and she has to wrap a shawl around her wrist to cover it.

    Anything it takes.

Ooooooft. Jonny Bairstow is finally drawn into playing at one that he could leave on line and length.

    He misses.

That's a maiden for Pat Cummins. Australia could do with stringing a few of them together.
