Shot! Ben Stokes whips Nathan Lyon away through mid-wicket for a four!

    Positively motoring along. Ahem.

Would you not rather Ben Stokes kept missing opportunities to score than a pre-meditated skip down the pitch that gets him out?

Joe Root just didn't need to do that. He's so good at going back and playing late to the spinner. There was always going to be enough singles just tapping off his pads.

Skipping down the pitch is always more risky.

I have never seen Headingley full at 11am on a Sunday. Fantastic to see.

This first session is crucial - they all know it.

Ben Stokes is three from 72, you can see his mindset. But he is missing opportunities to score.

Ben Stokes is drawn into the shot by James Pattinson and the ball just leaves him to beat the outside edge.

That is six catches in the match for David Warner - one behind Greg Chappell and Matthew Hayden for Australia.

AMT89: Oh Joe. What have you done? This man is seriously in need of a break. Decision making of a 12-year-old in a school game.

Theo: Joe Root... that is captain clueless. Nothing to gain by taking Lyon on there. Goodbye Ashes.

Matthew Moore: That is incredibly poor decision-making and three overs before a new ball. Undoes all the good work of yesterday. Root yet again showing why he is a class below Kohli, Smith and Williamson.

After all of Saturday's battling, bravery and patience, for Joe Root to do that to Lyon's third delivery is utterly bizarre.

  10. Postpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 25 August 2019

Jeez. It's such a brilliant catch by Warner. The anticipation to realise Paine isn't getting it and time the dive perfectly. That's six catches in the match for the Australia batsman.

356 Test wickets for Nathan Lyon is an amazing effort. For a finger spinner to have that many wickets, especially when he's played as much cricket on pitches in Australia, is incredible.

Joe Root would want his time again - that's all down to the pressure of so long without scoring a run. Australia have given them nothing.

Need 199 more runs to win

Jonny Bairstow works it to square leg for a single to get off the mark.

Well, England need under 200 runs now at least.

He did not. A bizarre dismissal.

    Out comes Jonny Bairstow.

That wicket takes Nathan Lyon past Dennis Lillee to become the third leading Test wicket taker for Australia after Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath.

Lyon has 356 Test scalps now.

    Well that's that then.

Joe Root skips down the pitch, trying to access the gap at mid-wicket but inside edges it into his pads and the ball loops up over Tim Paine's shoulder.

But David Warner puts in a sublime dive to take a brilliant catch from first slip.

All the ingredients an England fan hates - Nathan Lyon dismissing Root via a tremendous Warner catch.
