Also believe that 'Root 66' is the score he made in his first, first-class innings for Yorkshire!

  5. Eng 160-2published at 58.4 overs

The light is horrid and Joe Root makes things worse with a horrible, loose, wafty drive outside his off stump.

Oh, another beauty goes whizzing past Root's outside edge, and he has to be careful here. He scampers through for a single and for one horrible, perilous moment, I thought he was going to run Rory Burns out.

Chris Taylor: You only have to watch a couple of overs to see who is really captaining the Aussie team, it’s Smith telling everyone what to do and Paine defers to him.

  8. Eng 159-2published at 58 overs

    Trail by 338 runs

Oh! Joe Root gets caught in two minds and come perilously close to bunting the ball back to Nathan Lyon in his follow through.

That's slightly better, Root feathering a sweep around the corner for a single and, pleasingly, Root is on 66.

  11. Eng 158-2published at 57 overs

    Burns 77, Root 65

That was inexplicable from Burns. There was not a run available for starters but then he didn't seem to get into a full sprint. He was watching the ball go to Head rather than getting a wriggle on.

Australia are sensing an opportunity. The ball loops in their air off Burns' glove at the end of the over but it falls safe.

    What is he doing?!

Rory Burns takes the most casual of singles after dropping the ball to extra cover and would have been miles out had Travis Head's throw hit.

Head knows it too. He has his hands on his head.

  19. Eng 154-2published at 56 overs

    Root 64, Burns 74

Rory Burns picks up where he left off, cutting an off-colour Nathan Lyon for a single, and Joe Root hobbles through for a single.

Short, and hoicked around the corner by Joe Root, but a brilliant dive by Travis Head stops it reaching the boundary. Excellent fielding, and Root has to settle for two.
