That.
A tired shot perhaps?

There's something about playing Ashes cricket in this country, with the smaller grounds and the atmosphere from the crowd, who have a real passion for the game.

I'm very much enjoying that a lady at the very top of the pavilion is knitting what looks like a sweater. By contrast, along from her, three chaps are huddled around a phone watching a trailer for the new Joker film.
Root 47, Bairstow 2
Mitch Marsh is trying to tempt Joe Root with the outswinger but it's slow enough the England captain can get in behind.
Marsh strays on to the pads and Root tucks it away for a couple more.

Australia have got a sniff. Bairstow has not been in great form, then there's Buttler, Curran, Woakes, who will know he'll get a barrage of short stuff when he comes in.
It's best not to try and understand the Marsh brothers.

Mitchell Marsh has got Ben Stokes out three times in four Tests. The only batsman he's dismissed more? Brendon McCullum. How?!
Root 45, Bairstow 2
Joe Root pushes through the covers for a scampered three and Jonny Bairstow gets off the mark, flicking behind square leg off his pads for two.
Huge innings for this Yorkshire pair here.

Chris Smith: Brainless from Stokes there. Well set and on a batsman’s dream of a wicket and you give it away like that. All of a sudden just two out and out batsmen left, both horribly out of form, and a long tail. Steve Smith will go big on this pitch.

"Nathan Lyon is back" mutters Glenn McGrath as the Aussie off-spinner settles himself under that steepling chance from Ben Stokes. Oh, good...
Mitch Marsh is getting a remarkable amount of swing. He must have changed something in his action - I've not seen him move the ball this much at all before.
Not that the swing did for Ben Stokes, it was just a bad shot.
But on a sunny, almost cloudless day, Marsh is giving credence to the school of thought that your action is what creates swing, not overhead conditions.
And that's the what causes swing can of worms opened.

Again, that is a mistake. It is not a ball that should get you out. There were two fielders out. The three wickets today have all been mistakes by the batsmen. England have got to be careful here that they don't let Tim Paine off the hook. They should be making 350-plus.
Stokes c Lyon b Marsh 20 (Eng 130-3)
Horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible dismissal.
Ben Stokes has done well keeping the pull shot down so far but mucks it up this time and pays for it.
A fairly innocuous ball that Stokes has tried to whip over mid-wicket with a low-arm pull but instead it chips up off a leading edge.
Nathan Lyon steadies himself at point and pouches it. England really are never that far from dire trouble, eh?

Oli: Another strange thing about Australia choosing to bowl first is that their bowlers only had a three-day break from Old Trafford. England's bowlers will have had five if they don't have to bowl until tomorrow.

When Tim Paine said they were going to have a bowl first, Joe Root might have been the happiest person out there. They've got off to a great start.

Sun shining, crowd quietly enjoying proceedings, England making hay... does this summer have to end?
Positive but not reckless play by Joe Root and Ben Stokes to steady England since the loss of Rory Burns.
Their rewards is a drinks break.
Welcome back to the attack, Pat.
Maybe Peter Siddle gave Tim Paine a dodgy banana in those 10 minutes.
Imagine if Paine meant to say 'bat' but accidentally said 'bowl' instead and couldn't correct himself out of embarrassment.
