It's challenging out there but not impossible.

Marais doesn't get too many wrong! It's unlucky though on Hazlewood... it was a good delivery.
Oooooft. The ball-tracking shows it was only just sneaking over. The ball did hit Burns on the thigh pad. He survives.
Regardless it was a really good ball that nipped back and completely beat the England opener.
Only needs to be flicking...
Burns hasn't hit this...

Burns reviewed it like a man who had got an edge on it.

Hazlewood was convinced.

I thought I heard a hard sound there.
Given!
Rory Burns is put lbw.
It didn't quite look right and Burns reviews.
It was overcast when we started, and when Tim Paine chose to bowl, but he'll be slightly concerned to see the sun come out now.

I was talking to Stuart Broad yesterday and he will admit he had this match marked down as potentially his farewell. But he's had a superb series and is showing he is still at the top of his game. He's bowled beautifully.
Burns 4, Denly 3
Mitchell Marsh gets into the series for the first time with a diving stop to prevent a Ian Bell-esque boundary through the offside. Marsh has spent a lot of time on the sidelines this summer after flying over to join the World Cup squad back in June. It'll be a relief to be out there.

You can tell when it's overcast at The Oval because you can't see the aeroplanes, which always fly over on their way to Heathrow.
Burns 4, Denly 1
That's a nice shot. It should settle Rory Burns down as he bats for England at his Surrey home for the first time. Hazlewood bowls a little wide and Burns gets on the front foot, leaning onto a drive for four runs.
Andrew Samson
BBC Test Match Special statistician
This is just the fourth time in 19 years a team has been put in at The Oval.
England are away. Joe Denly nudges Josh Hazlewood off his hip. A relieved round of applause breaks about at the Oval.
Burns 0, Denly 0
This pitch looks like the groundsman gave up after England lost last week and went "ah well. They can play on this". I'm sure that's not the case and I don't want a telling off but it's a bit messy. There are straggly patches of green grass.
Burns survives an excellent opener from Cummins.
Amy Lofthouse
BBC Sport at The Oval
The entire Oval crowd just breathed out an “ooft” as one as the first balls of the Test went ripping past Rory Burns’ outside edge. All five days have sold out - the first four days have been sold out for a while but fifth day tickets went like hot cakes after Ben Stokes’ heroics at Headingley.

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
The first hour is going to be a bit tricky I reckon!
