    Smith 66, Paine 1

But, for all of the recent commotion, Smith is still there. He changes his gloves at the end of the over and will be ready to go again.

  3. Aus 166-5published at 52.5 overs

Smith is fidgeting. He has perked up now with the ball moving and is waving his glove to tell everyone which way it is going.

  6. Aus 166-5published at 52.2 overs

Oh, another piece of fortune for Smith. He gets a leading edge to Archer but the ball is chipped into the off side.

And he's beaten a ball later! Beautiful bowling from Archer. Smith nods in approval.

    The crowd roars.

    Trail by 128

Curran is not the quickest but he causes batsmen problems. For a 21-year-old he has plenty of tricks up his sleeve. He dips one back into Paine that the Aussie captain gets his bat down on and then pushes the next ball across the right-hander. A play and a miss.

  10. Aus 166-5published at 51.1 overs

There is plenty of sweat in Sam Curran's floppy fringe. He's put a fine shift in today. Now he hits Tim Paine on the pad with one that does move but it's going down leg side.

  12. Aus 166-5published at 51 overs

    Smith 66, Paine 1

Tim Paine is off the mark. Jofra Archer now tries some more short stuff at Smith but he has gone back into his shell after almost getting out. Archer goes even shorter and no-one can get to that. Five wides.

Smith dropped on 66published at 50 overs

No! Steve Smith is dropped by Joe Root. It's a really tough chance for Root at slip who throws a hand up to his right after Smith top-edges a hard cut.

Curran thought he'd got him. He was off celebrating.
