I've just been saying exactly the same thing here in the office. England have some big decisions to make.
Denly dropped at fourth slip by Harris in final over of the day
Archer takes 6-62 as Australia bowled out for 225
Burns takes brilliant catch to remove last man Siddle
Smith - dropped at slip on 66 - top scores with 80
Curran earlier took two wickets in two balls
England bowled out for 294 - Buttler 70, Marsh 5-46
Australia - 2-1 up in series - have already retained Ashes
Australia won toss; 5th Test, day two, The Oval

The thing with Sam Curran is that it's been hard to disagree with him being omitted until this point. Who would he have replaced? Woakes? But, when he makes such an impact, how can you leave him out? Realistically, he is only playing because Ben Stokes can't bowl. In the future, England will probably pick another batsman. And there's James Anderson to come back. Decisions.
Curran hits the pads yet again. This one felt it was going down the leg side and England agree. No review.
It's swinging.
Curran's best Test figures are 4-74, by the way.

Jofra Archer has now bowled 20 overs today - how long can he keep going?
I suppose the best way to get a good break is to take three quick wickets now.
Smith 76, Siddle 5
Peter Siddle takes another single on the final ball of the over. Steve Smith isn't protecting the lower order yet.
Australia are still 112 behind England.
Dear Ed,
Keep him in the team!
Regards,
The UK.
That'll annoy England. Jonny Bairstow can't take one cleanly down the leg side and Peter Siddle can run through for a bye. Smith back on strike.

This is a decisive part of the match and England are currently winning it. There is a chance that England could get a substantial lead and, with Australia needing to bat last, this could be the session where England win the match.

Sam Curran is 21 years old. He's playing like he's got 10 years of experience. Smith is being very watchful against him and Curran cleverly bowls a bouncer to ensure Siddle will be on strike at the start of the next over.
A maiden.

Edward Laslett: The selectors need to be accountable for not playing Sam Curran all series. It’s not as if his talents were unknown until now.
Smith still looks tentative against Curran. There's half an appeal for lbw but I think Smith got an inside edge.
Curran has 3-44 and he's got Steve Smith in his sights now...

Matthew Wright: Can we never play a Test without Curran again and can Marais umpire every game?
Mark Poole: Why wasn’t Curran used last week? May have not made a difference but he would have backed up Broad and Archer much better. Always good to have a left-armer in the side...
Matt Crossman: Quality celebrappeal from Curran! Learning from the master.

We can't get ahead of ourselves yet. Steve Smith has had Peter Siddle for company once this series and has produced a match-winning partnership.
Can he do it again?

That is extraordinary. He played that deliberately off the face through the slip cordon.
The England players' faces tell the story here. They cannot believe this from the genius that is Steve Smith. He has opened the face to a full ball from Archer and has placed the ball between second and fourth slip.
What a shot.

That hat-trick ball was 88mph from Sam Curran. He's never bowled that fast in his life! The young lad's beans are going.
Back over to Steve Smith now...
He drives Archer to four.

You can't blame Sam Curran going for the fast yorker there. A good attempt.
