Josh Verrills: Glad Plunkett was kept in the World Cup squad; today has shown exactly what he has given to the side during the last four years - consistent, reliable, doesn’t lose his head when not going quite right for him and somehow has a knack of taking regular wicket.

If Australia get Roystow-ed here in the first 10 overs then this total will look even more do-able for England. As they did a couple of times against Pakistan, Roy and Bairstow are just settling in early before the attack really comes after about five overs.

If people are paying to watch the game then it should be a full one-day international. This is a glorified practice match. The public should not have had to pay to watch this.

Left-arm quick Jason Behrendorff is not as quick as some of his team-mates but he's big and gangly and is finding a bit of bounce and movement.

Bairstow finds the middle of his bat to test the legs of David Warner at mid-off.

The Australia innings was tepid and turgid. It was a very old fashioned, dull net practice for Steve Smith. It felt like they did not have any urgency.

Shot! Oh yes. This one is classic Jason Roy. He crashes Nathan Coulter-Nile through the covers to end the over.

Two fortunate boundaries came before but that one will settle the England opener down.

It's not the normal crunching start from Jason Roy, he is almost apologetic.

I think that was exceptional bounce rather than the norm.

A fair point Adam when talking about a full-strength Australia but there's no Pat Cummins or Mitchell Starc today.

As I say that Behrendorff gets one to lift off a length and it hits Roy on the glove.

But one of the main talking points of this game will be England's injury problems. At times the players were dropping like flies.

Mark Wood left the field early on after pulling up in his run up. The word from the England camp is that he has discomfort in his left foot.

Jofra Archer then slipped over soon after and for a moment there was panic about him. It seems like he is fine.

But Liam Dawson left the field later. He has split the skin on a finger on his right hand.

He will not bat. Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid - who weren't down to play today - will be allowed to bat for England to replace the injuries.
