Josh Verrills: Glad Plunkett was kept in the World Cup squad; today has shown exactly what he has given to the side during the last four years - consistent, reliable, doesn’t lose his head when not going quite right for him and somehow has a knack of taking regular wicket.

If Australia get Roystow-ed here in the first 10 overs then this total will look even more do-able for England. As they did a couple of times against Pakistan, Roy and Bairstow are just settling in early before the attack really comes after about five overs.

    One from the over.

If people are paying to watch the game then it should be a full one-day international. This is a glorified practice match. The public should not have had to pay to watch this.

    Roy 13, Bairstow 4

Left-arm quick Jason Behrendorff is not as quick as some of his team-mates but he's big and gangly and is finding a bit of bounce and movement.

Bairstow finds the middle of his bat to test the legs of David Warner at mid-off.

The Australia innings was tepid and turgid. It was a very old fashioned, dull net practice for Steve Smith. It felt like they did not have any urgency.

  6. Eng 14-0published at 2 overs

    Roy 12, Bairstow 1

Shot! Oh yes. This one is classic Jason Roy. He crashes Nathan Coulter-Nile through the covers to end the over.

Two fortunate boundaries came before but that one will settle the England opener down.

It's not the normal crunching start from Jason Roy, he is almost apologetic.

  8. Eng 9-0published at 1.5 overs

And now one off the inside edge from Roy. If he'd have meant these last two shots then he'd be a genius.

    Four more.

  9. Eng 5-0published at 1.4 overs

More frustration for Australia. Jason Roy edges another, this time as he goes hard at the ball, and the ball goes down to third man for four.

  10. Eng 1-0published at 1.2 overs

Jonny Bairstow tucks one into the leg-side and jogs a single. England are away in this run chase.

  11. Eng 0-0published at 1 over

It's still a maiden from Behrendorff to start.

There is no such thing as an easy slip catch, apart from this.

It is catching practice, but went straight in and straight out.

  13. dropped catch

And you can't drop sitters like this!

Jason Behrendorff finds Jason Roy's edge but Steve Smith drops an absolute dolly at slip. It went straight to him at a perfect height.

Unsurprisingly the crowd love it when they see it's Smith who has dropped it.

I think that was exceptional bounce rather than the norm.

  15. Eng 0-0published at 0.3 overs

A fair point Adam when talking about a full-strength Australia but there's no Pat Cummins or Mitchell Starc today.

As I say that Behrendorff gets one to lift off a length and it hits Roy on the glove.

Adam Kitchiner: Chasing 300 against Australia will be like chasing 370+ against Pakistan. Better bowling and fielding to contend with.

Jason Behrendorff is going to start with the ball for Australia.

Jason Roy is on strike with partner Jonny Bairstow at the other end.

All of that follows Eoin Morgan fracturing a finger yesterday plus Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid managing niggles.

Anyway, here come the England openers.

But one of the main talking points of this game will be England's injury problems. At times the players were dropping like flies.

Mark Wood left the field early on after pulling up in his run up. The word from the England camp is that he has discomfort in his left foot.

Jofra Archer then slipped over soon after and for a moment there was panic about him. It seems like he is fine.

But Liam Dawson left the field later. He has split the skin on a finger on his right hand.

He will not bat. Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid - who weren't down to play today - will be allowed to bat for England to replace the injuries.

Australia's running was a bit of a shambles today.

Marcus Stoinis was sold down the river by Steve Smith and it was typical the innings ended with another run-out after a series of near misses...
