jdbluesME: Why the need to keep resting Archer? He hardly played/bowled in the ODI's vs Pakistan, yet he is 'rested' again today. Is there more to this than pure resting?

Australia captain Aaron Finch: "I would bowled first. It looks a really good wicket. I don't think it'll change an awful lot. Hopefully we can put a big score on the board first.

"We have got a bit more confidence in the group get from getting on a winning role and beatings good sides. To be 2-0 down against India and come back and beat them was huge for us. We can beat the best in the world.

"You want to win as much as you can. It is important to take that confidence into the tournament."

England captain Jos Buttler: "It looks a good wicket - I think it'll stay that way for 50 overs. The diagnosis on Eoin is as good as can be, he's recovering well and should be fit for our first game. We've prepared well against Pakistan but there's little things we need to touch up on - like getting miles in bowlers' legs and time in the middle for the batsmen."

Australia lost seven ODI series in a row between January 2017 and January 2019 with many suggesting they were playing an outdated style of 50-over cricket.

    But things have changed.

The Aussies have come into form at the right time, winning their last eight ODIs in a row to clinch series wins in India and Pakistan.

Steve Smith and David Warner have returned since then, joining the likes of Aaron Finch, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell in a strong-looking squad.

Australia are resting Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell.

They are playing 12 players today. Full rules of who can bat and who can take to the field to follow.

Steve Smith and David Warner DO play. This should be fun.

Today is not an official ODI.

The runs and wickets don't count towards ODI career records.

Teams don't have to play just 11 players, they can swap on and off, but we're expecting England to stick to 11 - mostly because of injury issues.

We could also see these two up against England for the first time since their ball-tampering bans today.

I wonder how the Southampton crowd will treat them...

It's just five sleeps to go until the start of the 2019 World Cup.

Today favourites England play their first warm-up game and it's against their fiercest rivals of all.

Australia are in town. 12 months ago they were unfancied, soon to be thrashed 5-0 by England, but after a good run of form they're certainly one of the contenders.

This is a chance for both to lay down a marker.
