  1. SL 99-1published at 14.4 overs

Aerial from Lahiru Thirimanne, chasing after a tempter from Gulbadin Nabi, but a thick outside edge is cut off by the third man fielder.

Whoops. Nigel Llong has his arm out. Gulbadin has overstepped, and it's a no ball.

Nothing worse as a batsman when you walk off and think 'I should have just gone for it'.

  3. SL 95-1published at 14 overs

Excellent from Mohammad Nabi, twirling his way through the rest of the over.

That was Sri Lanka's highest opening partnership in the World Cup in the UK.

It's a poor dismissal, down the wicket, didn't commit to the stroke massively and the fielder didn't have to move. A very disappointing dismissal after a good start.

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 13.1 overs

    Karunaratne c Najibullah b Nabi 30 (SL 92-1)

    Gone!

Where did that come from? Frustration, maybe? Dimuth Karunaratne came skipping down the wicket, trying to launch Mohammad Nabi up and over the field, but he doesn't clear the man at long-on. All Najibullah Zadran has to do is bend his knees and he takes a comfortably catch to end a very good opening partnership.

  8. SL 92-0published at 13 overs

Gulbadin Naib doesn't half fire through his overs.

A blink of the eye and he's wheeled his way through his latest one, limiting the Sri Lanka openers to a smattering of singles and a well-timed two to fine leg.

  9. Postpublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 4 June 2019

That was the highest first powerplay score of the tournament so far - surpassing New Zealand's effort.

Gulbadin Naib needs some running repairs - he's ripped off a bandage on his arm diving in the field and, er, he's making a bit of a mess.

A sub comes on to patch him up.

Matt in Lincoln: Given the start Sri Lanka have made, is there an argument for them to hit out and aim for 220/250, end the innings early and have more chance of completing the match?

Ooh! Fired in from Mohammad Nabi, beating Dimuth Karunaratne as he tries to hustle him off his thigh, and only an inside edge saves the batsman from a very good lbw shout.

I remember playing Afghanistan in Johannesburg in 2009 and without disrespect we took them very lightly. It was Eoin Morgan's last game for Ireland, I remember he had an altercation with Phil Simmons in the Ireland dressing room after the game, and they hammered us. They tore us to shreds. It was like Ireland beating Australia and we all thought then they were a proper team and a force to be reckoned with.

  15. dropped catch

    Close!published at 11 overs

    SL 82-0

A leading edge from Dimuth Karunaratne, but it goes on the bounce to the man at extra cover.

Oh! Into the air chips Karunaratne, the ball plugging in the surface, but it flies just wide of a diving Gulbadin in his follow-through.

Time for a change of pace - the skipper, Gulbadin Naib, is bringing himself on.

    Just three from the over.

Just like Pakistan yesterday, this has been a terrific start after a... difficult, shall we say, opening match.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman will continue. He was born in 2001. I'm old.

Karunaratne seems very calm and that's what Sri Lanka need after all the turmoil in the team recently.
