It's a disappointing end, but credit to the fielding. It's been indifferent from both sides but that was excellent from the captain. he had time to swoop around, take aim, and Najibullah was well out. Could he have dived?

Nigel Llong has given it out, he hasn't gone upstairs! A brilliant piece of fielding, a dead-eyed throw, and Sri Lanka are nearly there.

    Najibullah run-out 43 (Afg 145-9)

Afghanistan's top-scorer departs as Najibullah takes on a quick single and Karunaratne scores a direct hit from mid-off.

  4. Postpublished at 19:04 British Summer Time 4 June 2019

Confusion here and a free-hit is given for an incorrect field placing. Nothing results from it though due to a clever slower ball. It's raining again as well just to add to proceedings.

  5. Afg 145-8published at 31.3 overs

Najibullah is still there for Afghanistan though and he is still hitting them cleanly, swiping left-arm seamer Udana over cover for his fourth boundary and then collecting four more rather more fortuitously with a thick edge to third man.

That felt like a decisive over from Malinga.

Just the one wide in that successful Malinga over and he has two more up his sleeve.

Bullseye! That is Malinga at his best!

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 30.4 overs

    Dawlat b Malinga 6 (Afg 136-8)

Malinga back in the attack after taking 1-31 from his first five overs and he makes the breakthrough with a vintage yorker.

Legendary Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara is in the commentary box looking much the same as he did in his illustrious playing days, just a few flecks of grey in his luxuriant head of hair. He is all smiles but some anxious Afghanistan followers can barely watch through their flags as Najibullah plays and misses outside off stump to Lakmal. Just two singles from the over.

  14. Afg 133-7published at 29 overs

    Target 187

The tousle-haired Pradeep will be the one Sri Lankan bowler to send down nine overs in the revised 41 over innings and he completes his spell of 4-31, his best ODI figures. Najibullah clips him away for two which Dawlat manages despite appearing to be running in concrete due to that hamstring injury.

We've got ourselves another exciting match. It's been nothing but gleeful fun over the last few days.

  17. Afg 130-7published at 28 overs

    Najibullah 31, Dawlat 5

Just the one innocuous over of spin so far from Sri Lanka and it is Lakmal who returns from the Cathedral Road End under the bright lights and a bouncer at 84mph will not be easy to play in the increasing pressure of a run chase. Dawlat has had some treatment on his hamstring but he scampers through safely to give Najibullah another single.

  20. Afg 127-7published at 27 overs

    Target 187 (41)

Here's one to look out for on the highlights. A forward defensive shot is missed first by Malinga slipping over and then by two other fielders. Somehow it has gone all the way to long on for four.
