Plunkett has been very good for England but I would say this is the attack they will go with. You can't drop Wood, Archer and Chris Woakes all-round has been very good. This formation may be the formation that goes forward. We know with Moeen Ali he is a confidence player and as soon as he starts he is very hard to stop. He also bowled nicely so it's good to see.

Mark Wood had another good day. He finished with 2-40 from 10 overs. England's fast bowling attack is looking sharp.

Jofra Archer also took another three wickets today. It is his fourth three-four of the tournament.

England captain Eoin Morgan, speaking to TMS: "I had an extremely bad back after the last game but our medical staff have done wonders with medication and extensive treatment. I have pretty much been living with the physio.

"When my back goes into spasm it creates a tremendous amount of pain, the work the guys have done have allowed me not only to play but the way that I did."

That full toss for Rashid when he got the wicket with sums up cricket. He spun the ball to try and get a wicket, over the last few weeks he has been putting the ball there. When he is at his best he is fizzing it and they can mis-hit it. I would just advise him to just spin it, if he can get the revolutions on the ball he will cause problems.

It was a confidence-boosting day for Adil Rashid.

He has struggled so far in the tournament and despite not bowling his best he nipped in with three wickets.

England captain Eoin Morgan: "We are where we want to be. The next two or three games are pretty crucial to us. We want to bring our level of intensity to every game. Focusing on that and making that a priority is important to us.

"The intensity can still be there, but you will still make mistakes. We did spill a couple of catches, we can happen. We'll try hard to improve. But as long as that's there, I think you can't fault the guys."

I don't see Afghanistan winning too many games but can they improve? They have improved today, there are areas they can get a lot better, rotate the strike better. The next World Cup is in India that's four more years of experience and the pitches will suit their batting. They'll find a few more younger players and they will be able to push some of the bigger teams more so than they have in this tournament.

After England's thumping batting performance, it always looked an all-but impossible ask for Afghanistan to win but they did at least show fight.

They scored their highest score so far in this tournament.

    Hashmatullah Shahidi top-scored with 76.

Afghanistan captain Gulbadin Naib: "How they played was something special. Credit goes to Morgan, how he batted, I think it was one of the best innings I've seen from him.

"We saw the wicket in the morning and it was totally different from the last game he played. Unfortunately, Rashid had some expensive overs so he did not deliver his best. It was a special game.

"It's one of the best innings he [Morgan] has played."

For Vince your currency isn't going to get you in the team with 30s and 40s, he might only have one more opportunity before that Test match against Ireland. He plays nicely, you wish sometimes he didn't play as nicely but got more runs. I do have a concern about his pull shot, he is coming from low to high and coming up with it. Friday is a big day for him, he will have to get a big score.

It was quite right that Morgan got a pat on the back from the Afghanistan fielders when he was eventually out.

  17. Innings beyond Morgan's 'wildest dreams'published at 18:26 British Summer Time 18 June 2019

Man of the match Eoin Morgan: "I didn't think at any stage it was going to be my day. Getting quite old, running around with a bad back, you never think you can produce an innings like this. I never thought in my wildest dreams I'd produce an innings like that.

"It was a special day. It was a tough game, Afghanistan are a side with a lot of potential and it's the World Cup. We're loving playing in it. On the big stage, it is nice to do.

"I think I have changed. Everybody probably plays the shots I started my career with now, so they're not as effective. I've done full circle and I'm probably stronger down the ground now than I've ever been.

"I haven't yet put my back out! Tomorrow's going to be a rough day, I think..."

The last three performances could have been banana skins for England, and they've hammered their opponents. Can England play to this fashion, with this aggression, when it matters in a semi-final? The semi-final, for me, is the big game.

In total England hit 25 sixes - a new ODI record.

Moeen Ali chipped in with a timely 31 from nine balls down the order to boost his confidence.

After James Vince, into the team for the injured Jason Roy, fell for 26, Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root put on a partnership of 120.

They settled any nerves England may have had and gave Eoin Morgan the platform for his destructive innings.
