    Gone!

Noor Ali Zadran reaches for a wide Jofra Archer delivery, and can do nothing more than drag it onto his stumps. It's a flat-footed, tired-looking poke from the batsman and a thick under edge splatters into the stumps. Just a casual 90mph from Archer, there...

  2. Afg 4-0published at 1.1 overs

And Gulbadin Naib drives his first ball down the ground!

It would be four if not for an excellent dive by Chris Woakes, throwing himself into the ropes to dab the ball back into play.

I don't think they'll have discussed a great deal, Afghanistan, they only play one way, they like to give it a good old club. That's been their issue in the tournament they have tried to hit every ball for six, they haven't been able to rotate the strike. Well today they're allowed to try and hit every ball for six because they are going to need to.

  5. Afg 1-0published at 1 over

A wide is all that Chris Woakes concedes from his first over.

Positively miserly after all the carnage...

  6. Afg 1-0published at 0.4 overs

    Ooft!

Chris Woakes cuts Noor Ali in half with a delivery that nips back and just skims over the stumps.

Any other day that would have been a pace setting innings but today he allowed Morgan to play his shots.

Root is the most important player - I know Morgan gave us some fabulous entertainment - but Root is the glue, if opposing teams can get him out early that's when you can get on top of the England team.

Right then. The England players are out on the pitch.

Here comes the Afghanistan batsmen. Honestly, you wouldn't have blamed them for not coming back out.

For my earlier and clear motivational message, let me say three words to Eoin Morgan...... You. Are. Welcome. I am taking full credit.

You have to ask whether this match will be remembered more for Morgan's record-breaking 148 or Richard's infamous 12:51 text.

So, when I left my desk to do an interview, Eoin Morgan was on about six.

I came back and he was two blows away from a century and there was absolute carnage going on at Old Trafford.

Remarkable. He hit 17 sixes. England only managed 18 in the entire 2015 World Cup!
