  1. Eng 193-2published at 34 overs

    Root 51, Morgan 25

Eoin Morgan is more watchful to Rashid after his rapid start. He carefully cuts behind point for three, helped by some more sketchy fielding from Afghanistan.

Some dark clouds have rolled in. I can confirm it's still bright outside our office a couple of miles away so no need to worry too much.

Rashid Khan is back, replacing Gulbadin Naib who took the wicket of Jonny Bairstow.

Has Gulbadin got the biggest biceps in cricket?

Joe Root is brilliant. Pass it on.

    Run-rate 5.73

I don't mean to panic you but I've just seen a replay of Joe Root stretching out his back. To be fair he does that a lot and bats with back issues a lot of the time.

I don't think Morgan is going to hang around today. I think he's decided he trusts Root to be there and he's going to add a bit of sparkle.

  8. Eng 188-2published at 32.2 overs

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Eoin Morgan couldn't do this if he did have a bad back. He stoops low and hits one of his reverse sweeps for four off off-spinner Nabi.

    A brilliant shot.

This is Joe Root's fifth ODI half-century in six matches. He had previously gone seven innings without a fifty.

  10. 50 runs

50 for Rootpublished at 32.1 overs

Yet again Joe Root reaches 50. This landmark has been reached from 54 balls.

  11. Eng 183-2published at 32 overs

    Root 49, Morgan 14

This is like when the tennis world turned into hip injury experts when Andy Murray was limping. We're all desperately trying to decide if Eoin Morgan still has a back problem.

There didn't look to be any issue when he was whacking the ball into the stand but he's a little slow in running between the wickets.

Morgan's back seems to have improved very rapidly! It's wonderful, he's just skipped down the pitch and that went miles in the air.

And again! This one goes a long way up over long-on but carries over the boundary by a couple of metres. Back-to-back sixes for Eoin Morgan.

  14. 6 runs

    Eng 175-2published at 31.2 overs

Morgan looks fine here! There's no sign of any stiffness as he punishes a free hit with a big hook shot for six.

I don't think Morgan is moving quite as freely as a 100% fit person. He'll feel better now!

  16. Eng 168-2published at 31.1 overs

Almost a nasty mix-up! Eoin Morgan tries to sneak a single but is sent back as two fielders and the bowler chase after the ball.

Morgan then collides with bowler and ex-bodybuilder Gulbadin and drops his bat in the process but gets back to make his ground.

  17. Eng 168-2published at 31 overs

    Root 48, Morgan 1

And Joe Root continues to just knock the ball around. He has only hit two boundaries but is on the verge of another half-century.

Joe Root is 46 from 50 deliveries and I don't remember too many shots. He just manoeuvres the ball into the gap and before you notice it, he's in the twenties, then you look again, he's in the thirties.

  19. Eng 166-2published at 30.5 overs

Off-spinner Mohammad Nabi is back to bowl at left-handed Eoin Morgan. The England captain gets off the mark with a push down to long-on.

The way the pitch is playing, you wouldn't want to be chasing 225-plus this afternoon. It's getting slower.
