  1. SA 57-1published at 13.1 overs

Width from Imad again and again Quinton de Kock crashes it over the covers for four. A bit more lofted this time but another flowing stroke.

Wahab still has that ability to slip a really quick delivery in.

  3. SA 53-1published at 13 overs

De Kock 18, Du Plessis 32

Just two form Wahab Riaz's first over, which he ends with a sharp bumper that Faf du Plessis has to swerve out of the way of.

Wahab Riaz is going to have a blast.

  5. SA 51-1published at 12 overs

    Target 309

That's the 50 up for South Africa. Not a fast one. They need to make sure they don't get too bogged down just keeping wickets in hand.

  6. SA 49-1published at 11.4 overs

Imad Wasim pushes it too wide and Quinton de Kock pounces, slashing it through extra cover for four.

The Saffer keeper stands and admires. Lovely shot.

  7. Shadab nearly takes a blinding catchpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 23 June 2019

Shades of Jonty... just without holding on...

  8. SA 44-1published at 11 overs

De Kock 12, Du Plessis 29

Shaheen ends with two dot balls.

  9. SA 43-1published at 10.3 overs

Faf du Plessis leans forward and steers the ball off a very thick inside edge through wide long on for four.

South Africa have some sort of base. These two guys have got to push on. It is best to go out like a lion and not like a lamb.

    Cheers Tom.

It feels like this pair are going to have to take it deep for South Africa.

Aside from Rassie van der Dussen, their middle order has been so brittle in this tournament.

  12. SA 38-1published at 10 overs

South Africa have been struggling for singles let alone boundaries, but that will make them feel better. Faf du Plessis uses his feet to dance down the track and push the ball down the ground for four.

That's from me for now. Time to hand over to Jack Skelton.

  15. How's stat?!published at 15:33 British Summer Time 23 June 2019

Faf du Plessis has been dismissed bowled in each of his last three innings at the World Cup; no batsman has been removed in that fashion more often (level with Malinga).

  16. SA 32-1published at 9 overs

Shaheen Afridi maintains a full and straight line and Quinton de Kock blocks out the rest of the over .

Pressure slowly rising for South Africa as that run rate creeps up.

It is a good effort. It was almost like Jonty Rhodes in 1992.

  18. dropped catch

Faf du Plessis dropped on 18published at 8.1 overs

Another drop - but this is very unlucky. Faf du Plessis slashes the ball just to the left of point where a sprawling Shadab Khan cannot quite take the catch. A fine effort.

  19. SA 31-1published at 8 overs

Edged.....and safe. Quinton de Kock is reaching outside the off stump and the ball flies to where third slip would be.

Three balls later Faf du Plessis does exactly the same, slashing hard for a single through the vacant second slip area and down to third man.

Mohammad Amir is 1-9 from his four overs so far.
