  1. Afg 72-1published at 18 overs

Hashmatullah Shahidi's best option against Mehedi Hasan might be to wait for the straighter ball on the pads and sweep it away - he does so here and picks up three.

Gulbadin Naib takes two and then whips out through mid-wicket for a single to keep the strike.

That's a better over for Afghanistan - knocking it into the gaps to pick up seven runs.

    Andy Zaltzman

Afghanistan have the highest dot-ball percentage as a batting side but Bangladesh have the lowest dot-ball percentage as a bowling side. How you put those stats together I have no idea.

  3. Afg 65-1published at 17 overs

    Target 263

Now Mosaddek Hossain goes round the wicket to Hashmatullah Shahidi.

The left-hander is really having to battle against these off-spinners and looks relieved when he gets off strike.

He edges the last trying to drive and picks up two as the ball runs away towards third man. Streaky but no slip in place.

This World Cup has got to be such good experience for Afghanistan. I think they have improved throughout but in the batting in particular there is that gap to the other teams.

Both Afghanistan batsmen are getting a stretch and a rub down now.

You can feel the pressure being applied, especially in the pace the bowlers are getting through the overs.

Drinks are out on the field and Gulbadin Naib looks to have a touch of cramp, getting a stretch in with the physio.

    This is torture for Hashmatullah.

  10. Afg 60-1published at 16 overs

    Hashmatullah 2 off 14 balls

Mehedi has Hashmatullah's number here. The left-hander is struggling to get the off-spinner away before he can finally sweep it off his pads for a single.

  11. Afg 58-1published at 15 overs

Mosaddek is very much Bangladesh's third spinner and Gulbadin does elect to get after him after facing five straight dot balls.

The Afghanistan captain skips down the track and lofts it over the covers for four.

Bangladesh are going to have to ration Mehedi and Shakib though.

Shakib is out of the attack after two overs, in comes off-spinner Mosaddek Hossain.

  13. Afg 54-1published at 14 overs

    Target 263

Yeeesh. Mehedi Hasan goes round the wicket to the left-handed Hashmatullah Shahidi, drifts it in and gets prodigious turn past the outside edge.

    Worrying signs for Afghanistan.

  14. Afg 51-1published at 13 overs

    Gulbadin 18, Hashmatullah 0

    Squeeze: on.

Shakib is demonstrating superb control, limiting Afghanistan again to just one off the over.

What I thought Afghanistan did well against India was stay in the game. They haven't been able to do that in previous games so can they do it today?

  16. Afg 50-1published at 12 overs

    Target 263

And where Afghanistan had been ticking along quite nicely, they are now back into consolidation mode. Just one from the over.

Hashmatullah Shahidi can't get off the mark from his first four balls.

    Double spin for Bangladesh.

    Off-spinner Mehedi Hasan is on.

It wasn't a particularly good ball or shot. It was the forceful nature of the shot that created that wicket.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 10.5 overs

    Rahmat c Tamim b Shakib (Afg 49-1)

Rahmat Shah, you did not need to do that.

A pretty average ball from Shakib Al Hasan, dropping short and Rahmat tries to leather over the top of the infield.

But the bat slightly turns in his hand as he splices it up and Tamim Iqbal takes a couple of steps back to complete the catch.

He could've hit that ball anywhere and didn't really need to be looking for the big shot after a solid start.

    Bangladesh need a wicket.

They turn to talisman Shakib Al Hasan.

First bit of spin in this innings...
