    Williamson c Sarfaraz b Shadab 41 (NZ 83-5)

    Now then! That is massive.

The Edgbaston rafters are blown clean off again by this manic Pakistan crowd as Kane Williamson is out! It's a really, really good leg break, tempting him forwards into a defensive push and he just tickles it behind to the keeper.

New Zealand in big, big trouble now...

  2. Not outpublished at 13:30 British Summer Time 26 June 2019

Kane Williamson was home safe. Every run counts in such a low scoring game.

    That was a risky single.

Thanks Amy - I was an over late taking over as I was brewing up. Fair?

They are checking a run out as NZ scramble a quick single...

New Zealand fans are much more optimistic than England fans, aren't they?

I'm off for a bit. Tom Rostance will take you through the business end of proceedings.

Looks quite unlikely, given the tight lines Pakistan is bowling, but if NZ were to reach 230-ish, then they too have bowlers up front that can put the pressure back on Pakistan. But at the moment, the game is in their control.

  7. NZ 82-4published at 26 overs

    Williamson 41, Neesham 18

Jimmy Neesham plays a Wahab Riaz short ball very well, tucking himself behind the ball and dropping his bottom hand to nudge it away for one.

    Tidy, as ever, from Wahab.

This is, genuinely, brilliant. It feels like a Test match in so many ways, just with absolutely insane noise levels to go along with it.

There's turn there for Shadab but it's too short and Williamson leans back to cut it for a single.

And again, Jimmy Neesham is beaten on the outside edge, spinning away from the bat! Neesham scampers forward and hoicks a single into the leg side to end the over, which means he's going to have to face Wahab again...

Hyphen: I reckon Pakistan do two coin tosses before each match. One to decide which cricket they'd be playing on the day and one to decide bat/bowl. Fascinating, unpredictable and palpitation-inducing cricket at its finest.

  12. NZ 77-4published at 24 overs

    Williamson 39, Neesham 15

Wahab Riaz sends down a spicy bouncer that Jimmy Neesham almost throws himself to the floor to avoid it.

He ends the over with a tentative swish and miss outside off stump. Brilliant from Wahab.

If New Zealand keep on plodding along at 3.30 and see out their overs, then they'll get 165.

It, er, doesn't feel likely at the minute.

Being able to watch Kohli, Root, Williamson & Smith all in their prime is an absolute privilege. Wouldn't know how to start in terms of rating them in terms of ability, but surely Kane has to be top in terms of importance to his team?

New Zealand are having to take these risky singles with the runs all but dried up.

    Just two runs...

It was another good over - they are just not giving Williamson any room at all. No width.

James Beeching: Williamson should just have a “not out” by his name by default - best batsman in the world at the moment.

  19. NZ 74-4published at 22 overs

    Williamson 37, Neesham 14

A beauty! Are we going to get one of those Wahab Riaz spells? He beats Kane Williamson with a skiddy delivery that nips past the outside edge.

And again! Williamson doesn't meet the bowlers eye as he finishes his bowler.

  20. NZ 74-4published at 21.3 overs

A little leg side flick gets Kane Williamson two runs off Wahab Riaz, but that's a streaky slash for four!

A thick inside edge from Williamson nips just past his stumps and Shaheen Afridi dives over the ball as it goes for four down at fine leg.
