This was very much on the card - the field was set to force the slog from the batsmen. The pressure of the close-in fielders got the better of him.

    Afghan b Shadab 42 (Afg 121-4)

    No, they can't go big.

It's brainless cricket for Asghar Afghan if I'm being honest. He was motoring along at 42 off 35 balls but he's tried one big hit too many as he comes down the track to Shadab Khan and attempts a heave over mid-wicket. He misses and the ball cannons into middle stump.

Big breakthrough for Pakistan, that partnership was looking ominous.

    Thanks Tom.

This has been much better from Afghanistan today - this partnership is up to 63 now, can they go big and post a defendable target?

Been a while since we had a boundary, Pakistan's spinners have put the strangle on.

Here's Callum Matthews to take you through the rest of the innings...

Doctor Joker: The low-scoring games with smart cricket (bar England), have been an exciting feature in this World Cup. Why ruin it with a 40 over game - just to make it “faster”?

    Afghan 41, Ikram 20

This Ikram innings is something else. Slower than a week in prison. He's scored 20 off 55 balls - but it could be exactly what is needed.

A hundred partnership would be a real landmark for Afghanistan. Whisper it quietly but that's what wins you matches.

Afghanistan have started really well but they've got to keep going. They've got to make Pakistan sweat for everything.

Asghar Afghan scored 67 in his last ODI innings versus Pakistan and he's up to 40 as we stand. Been a good knock. Can he kick on?

Afghanistan have not been well led at times. They've got world-class spin bowlers but they've not been used as an aggressive option.

Ten overs since a wicket for Pakistan and there's a few frustrated faces out there. These two are runnign well between the wickets, rotating the strike. moving fielders.

To Joe's 40 over suggestion. Why? Why does everything have to be shorter and faster?

There is self-belief in Pakistan that they can win this tournament now, and that has given them the spark we're seeing on the field.

Afghan helps himself to a few singles as Shadab races through his over. Afghanistan scoring at just about five an over, they could set a defendable target yet.

It's been a mixed start for Pakistan - they've looked both good and ordinary. In Birmingham, the conditions suited them. Here it's different.
