You can sense Pakistan as a team, and their supporters, enjoy the cornered tigers theme. Now they are in a game in which they are expected to win and win handsomely.

  2. Afg 105-3published at 20.3 overs

Ikram gets a rocket on his toes but turns it away stylishly. The youngster has got technique.

  3. Afg 104-3published at 20 overs

    Afghan 35, Ikram 13

Shadab gets some decent bounce and Ikram is in a bit of a knot but he's safe enough. 13 off 41. Sticking around.

Given 20/20, is there an argument to make the next World Cup 40 overs a side? Teams would be able to go for it more, and faster, and two games a day could be scheduled - a day game and a day-nighter (at different grounds). Shorter tournament, faster games.

Afghanistan scored 247 against England, but the limit for Afghanistan has tended to be 200 in this tournament.

  7. Afg 103-3published at 19.3 overs

Half a run out chance but Ikram was on his toes to motor through and make it home! That was quick thinking.

  8. Afg 101-3published at 19 overs

    Run rate 5.36

These two are batting well, ticking over pretty nicely. The Pakistan fans are being kept reasonably quiet at the moment.

MD: They’re not going to get 350 so I think Afghanistan should set their sights more on 250 and bat sensibly enough to get there. And then if they bowl well they may have an outside chance. Pakistan strong favourites however.

That's the ton up, Sarfaraz has a trot down to have a word with his bowler Wahab. Pitch it up more?

Asghar Afghan was disappointed to lose the captaincy but apparently he's been training really hard, he's worked the hardest in the group.

Ashgar Afghan, you can come again! Lovely shot, over-pitched and just flicked effortlessly for another big six. Made it look easy.

Ikram took a single by the way to get to 12 - now his highest ODI score.

  14. Afg 88-3published at 17.3 overs

    Afghan 21, Ikram 11

Shot again! Ashgar Afghan moves his feet to the leg spinner and clips him over the covers for a big four.

Alex Garner: Bringing in Ikram at four is a bold innovation by Afghanistan - maybe the night watchman does have a future in the 50 over format?
