It's been disappointing for Afghanistan, not just that they haven't won any matches yet, but you really want them to benefit from the experience and not have to go home and sort loads of issues, which it feels like they're going to have to do.

These two have put on a tidy 25-run partnership. What's a good score from here for Afghanistan? Can they be competitive?

  4. Rahmat ramps for fourpublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 29 June 2019

Shot of the day so far. Just a shame he was out a ball later.

    Pakistan fans

Pakistan fans really live every ball. I settled down at the back of the new stand at Headingley which is mostly populated by Pakistan fans. Every slight appeal, every half-shout, someone jumps off their seat, appealing with the players. A dot ball is welcomed the same way a six might be.

There's a wide age range here as well - a lot of families, which is always good to see. Then, at the back of what was the Western Terrace, the band have cranked up the drums.

They're dancing around, with a bemused security guard stood in the middle of them, and at the bottom of the stairs, a baby sleeps peacefully in its carrier, utterly unaffected by the chaos going on around it.

Najibullah Zadran is the one for me, he should be coming in at least five. He's looked Afghanistan's best batsman.

I know Ikram Ali Khil does bat at three or four for Afghanistan's A side.

  9. Afg 82-3published at 16 overs

    Afghan 15, Ikram 11

Sharp fielding keeps Ikram on that 11*, off 33 balls now. Get set for a big one?

On Ikram Ali Khil coming in at four...

He's scored no runs, he's looked edgy, he can't rotate the strike, I don't really know where to start. He hasn't shined during this tournament.

  11. Afg 81-3published at 15.1 overs

Shadab comes on to bowl, he got some big turn against New Zealand and his first ball is edged - for four!

Afghanistan haven't been steamrolled at this tournament - that is one thing to mention. They have been competitive.

  15. Afg 77-3published at 15 overs

Ikram has matched his ODI best of 11 by the way. Go on son!

  16. How's stat?!published at 11:33 British Summer Time 29 June 2019

Rahmat Shah has been out caught more often than any other batsman at this World Cup (seven times).

This was a tentative push, he got a bit fortunate there.

  18. Afg 77-3published at 14.3 overs

Wahab bowls two wides down the leg side in his first three balls. Loose start, he's then edged for four through a sort of phantom third slip area.

Asghar Afghan - the old captain - seemed to be conducting the team talk in the huddle pre-match today. It wasn't Gulbadin Naib.
