It's only his eighth ODI game, but Ikram Ali Khil's highest score so far is 11.

Our friend Ikram Ali Khil was batting at nine the other day so we're a bit uncertain why he's come out at four. Maybe some of the lads are still making their way through the Leeds traffic. If you get on that stupid ringroad you can never get off it.

He's off the mark though now as Afghanistan bring up the 50.

Afghanistan can get a bit uptight if they're forced to block and you can entice a mistake out of them.

Mohammad Hafeez is going to have a bowl.

  6. Afg 46-2published at 10 overs

He was born after I left school, which is very troubling. He's nearly out, almost nibbling an Imad ball behind but he survives. Still yet to score.

Ikram was born 10 days before the last game at Wembley. The 'old' Wembley.

Just to make us feel old, Shaheen Afridi - the bowler, and Ikram Ali Khil - the batter, were both born in 2000.

Terrible umpiring already. Could clearly see both edges and I'm not 100% watching!!

You've got to keep it nice and tight to Rahmat Shah because he can struggle with rotation of strike so you don't want to allow him easy boundary balls. Sarfaraz is already getting a bit frustrated.

Shaheen has tightened up his lines a bit, colouring in. Although as soon as I say that he bobbles one down the leg side and is tickled away for four.

My concern at the next tournament is how many 50-over totals we'll see. There's no doubt that T20 is the global driver of the game but it is having an affect. I think that's a starting point for nations and then it's up to their domestic game to grow players for the longer formats.

When this World Cup is all over and done with, the thing that will stick with me the most is the absolutely insane levels of noise the Pakistan, India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh fans have brought to every match. Even outside the ground, there are people gathered around the gates, trying to catch a glimpse through the gaps, while any car that drives past seems obliged to blare its horn until Headingley is out of sight.

Good over from Amir. Full and fast. Just one from it.

Daniel Stevanato: I'd expect that lbw appeal against Ikram to be turned down in club cricket, never mind in a World Cup. Thank goodness for DRS, absolutely appalling decision.

Afghanistan need to consolidate here - both at the crease now but I imagine there will be a fair bit of consolation at the end of the tournament. We already know they will need to find a new coach because Phil Simmons is leaving.

  20. Afg 39-2published at 7.3 overs

I've been pulled up, quite rightly, for saying that lbw appeal looked '100% out' and then calling it a shocker of a decision.

But that's because I'm not an umpire, and I was only half watching. And I'm a hypocrite of gigantic proportions.
