    Need 144 from 84 balls

Babar Azam will be 28 in four years time, Imam-ul-Haq 27. Shadab Khan will be 24. Shaheen Afridi will be 23. Even Mohammad Amir will only be 31.

That sounds like the basis of a team to give the next World Cup a proper go.

Babar throws himself to his right at mid-off to field the ball. They are good to watch.

I support India and I wish Pakistan should have been in the semi-final after their performance in recent matches.

    Target 316

15 overs to go. An unlikely 148 runs needed to win.

I won't insult your intelligence by telling you the required run rate is just below 10.

Mahmudullah can give it a strike but I've been impressed with Pakistan in the last few games. Shaheen Afridi just 19 years of age.

  6. Ban 167-5published at 34.4 overs

It's like the end of the school term on TMS with Ramiz Raja and Athar Ali Khan signing off for their final stints of the summer.

This group stage finally ends tomorrow.

I've loved it but it's about time.

Interesting that weather may have thwarted Pakistan to some degree this CWC. However, in 1992 the bad weather most definitely helped Pakistan; it stopped England beating them in Adelaide when they were almost certain to lose given the match situation when the rain arrived. We all know what happened next with Imran's cornered tigers. You win some, you lose some

  9. Ban 164-5published at 34 overs

    Mahmudullah 10, Mosaddek 3

Things are massively in Pakistan's favour now.

I don't agree with net run-rate as a way to split teams, and Pakistan were unlucky that their game against Sri Lanka was rained off, but how did they manage to get so heavily thrashed by West Indies, who have only won one game since?

    They'd be going through otherwise.

The atmosphere in the crowd is wonderful and there is bonhomie, which is wonderful to see.

You wouldn't have seen this from a Pakistan team in 2006. Shadab Khan, the gun fielder in this vibrant Pakistan team, races in from backward point and throws the stumps down with a diving throw.

Mosaddek Hossain has made his ground.

Shaheen has created very difficult angles for the batsmen to deal with.

"AF-RI-DI, AF-RI-DI, AF-RI-DI!" Chants Lord's. It's like being in 2006 all over again. Where are Umar Gul and Inzi?

This isn't Boom Boom Afridi but Shaheen, Pakistan's new star.

Shakib joined Sachin Tendulkar as the only player to score seven fifties in a World Cup. An average of 86.

    Hold your head high, Shakib.

You've been a star in this World Cup.

Just one score under 50. He's currently the highest scorer. Outstanding.

He was batting so well, all he had to do was take the game deep into maybe the 44th over but he was looking at the run rate as well so in the end a hard slash.

That is the wicket you feel will almost certainly confirm Pakistan will win this match. Pakistan know they have this game firmly in their grip.

    Shakib c Sarfaraz b Shaheen 64 (Ban 154-5)

That's the one Pakistan wanted! Shaheen Afridi gets his third wicket and it's the one they all wanted. Shakib al Hasan slashes hard at a short-ish delivery and edges through to the keeper.

Sarfaraz throws the ball up in the air and there looks to be a little scream in celebration from him. Shakib's outstanding World Cup ends with an innings of 64.

He's down on his knees which does suggest it has hit him in the groin area. It's funny for everyone but the person it happens to, for whom it is a horrible, sickening feeling.

  20. ouch!

    Ban 154-4published at 32 overs

    Target 316

Every tight over like this and things swing further and further into Pakistan direction. Amir only concedes the three runs.

It ends with Mahmudullah inside edging one into errr... lets say... his box...

The right-hander doubles over in the middle of field in pain and gets a sympathetic hand on the shoulder from one Pakistan fielder.
