  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 17 overs

    Freeborn c Wyatt b Wellington 15 (Loughborough 123-6)

A bad miss by Amanda Wellington who fails to hang onto a powerfully struck caught and bowled chance offered by new batter Jenny Gunn.

She claims her second wicket, though, when Abi Freeborn lofts a steepling catch to Danni Wyatt at mid-wicket.

Gunn flicks a boundary to end the over, but Lightning have lost their way a bit in the last couple of overs.

  2. 'Du Preez played a good hand'published at 13:07 British Summer Time 1 September 2019

    Kate Cross
England seam bowler on BBC 5 Live Sports Extra

She played a good hand there, Mignon du Preez.

She hopefully got the innings going a little bit for Loughborough Lightning.

Jenny Gunn hopefully has a bit of licence to finish the innings and get them to 150-160.

  3. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 15.5 overs

    du Preez c Wyatt b Morris 21 (Loughborough 118-5)

Mignon du Preez certainly has the bit between her teeth now and smashes the first ball of a new Fi Morris over for her second six.

Two balls later she ends up on her derriere as she tries to smear the ball through the leg-side, but fails to make contact and then is well taken on the boundary edge by Danni 'safe hands' Wyatt.

An entertaining knock by du Preez, but Loughborough would have liked her to gone on for another couple of overs.

  4. Loughborough 110-4published at 15 overs

    du Preez 14, Freeborn 10

Suzie Bates won't be happy with that as Mignon du Preez's drive goes straight through the fielder at mid-off's legs and runs away for four.

Emboldened by that, the South African hammers the next high and handsome over mid-wicket for six to bring up the 100 for Loughborough.

Bates tries a slower ball, but Abi Freeborn goes down on one knee to slog wide of the long-on fielder for another boundary.

Great over for the Lightning. Five to go, how close can they get to 150?

  6. Loughborough 95-4published at 14 overs

    du Preez 3, Freeborn 6

Pace bowler Lauren Bell is back after dismissing both openers in her opening burst at the start of the innings. She strays wide of off stump allowing Abi Freeborn to carve away for four and the Lightning batter spots a slower delivery to push it away for a single.

Bell is certainly going through the variations, but one from the back of the hand is too wide and costs her a wide before Mignong du Preez takes a single from the final ball of the over.

What will be a defendable total on this pitch?

  7. Loughborough 87-4published at 13 overs

    du Preez 2, Freeborn 1

Amanda Wellington totally bamboozles Mignon du Preez but there is so little pace on her leading edge, the ball falls short of the bowler.

Abi Freeborn then shapes to cut, but the ball is far too close to her and she is fortunate that an under-edge just misses the stumps and she is able to scamper through for her first run.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 12.1 overs

    Adams c Bates b Wellington 28 (Loughborough 85-4)

Our last words about Georgia Adams prove to be the kiss of death as she tries to clobber Amanda Wellington over the leg-side but doesn't get hold of it and Suzie Bates claims a good sliding catch.

  9. 'We need another 60-70 runs'published at 12:50 British Summer Time 1 September 2019

    Matthew Hoggard
Loughborough Lightning assistant coach on BBC 5 Live Sports Extra

It's even stevens at the moment

If we can get another 60 or 70 runs on and put Vipers under pressure we'll have done very well.

It's so nervy being a coach as you're watching and can't affect anything.

  10. Loughborough 85-3published at 12 overs

    Adams 28, du Preez 1

South African Mignon du Preez is under way with a single before Georgia Adams flips the next ball from Tash Farrant through backward square leg for four. Loughborough really need her to go on now and get through the rest of the innings.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11.3 overs

Elwiss run out 28 (Loughborough 78-3)

Left-arm seamer Tash Farrant is back for the Vipers after her opening two overs cost 16 runs.

Loughborough collect a couple of singles, but Georgia Elwiss calls for a second from the next delivery and is short of her ground on the dive as keeper Carla Rudd removes the bails from Danni Wyatt's throw from the deep.

  12. 6 runs

    Loughborough 76-2published at 11 overs

    Adams 22, Elwiss 26

Danni Wyatt returns and immediately drops short, allowing Georgia Elwiss to rock onto the back foot and pull powerfully for four.

Georgia Adams takes her life in her hands as she goes aerial over cover, but the ball drops safely into a gap as she adds two to the score before hoisting the next over mid-wicket for the first maximum of the game.

That's more like it by the Lightning.

  13. Loughborough 61-2published at 10 overs

    Adams 13, Elwiss 20

Here comes vastly experienced New Zealand all-rounder Suzie Bates with her medium-pace after a single over by Fi Morris.

A wide apart, it's a good over by Bates, yielding only singles, and Loughborough are going to need to step on the gas in the second half of their innings.

  14. Loughborough 56-2published at 9 overs

    Adams 11, Elwiss 18

Amanda Wellington continues and is guilty of a couple of leg-side wides as Loughborough's total passes 50 before Georgia Elwiss drives just wide of the fielder at long-off for another boundary.

  15. Watch: Bell's two wicketspublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 1 September 2019

Here's how Lauren Bell removed both Loughborough Lightning openers.

  16. Loughborough 47-2published at 8 overs

    Adams 9, Elwiss 13

It's a glorious day in Hove as the picture below shows.

The Vipers continue to ring the changes with Fi Morris into the attack.

There is no pace for the batters to work with from her floated deliveries, but Georgia Elwiss uses her feet well to deposit the final ball of the over over long-on for four.

  17. Loughborough 39-2published at 7 overs

    Adams 7, Elwiss 7

Only one over for Danni Wyatt, as Southern Vipers call up Amanda Wellington to try a bit of leg-spin.

Georgia Adams chips over cover for a single before Georgia Elwiss finds the boundary with a well-timed ramp shot.

    Six off the over.

  18. Vipers' fielding has improvedpublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 1 September 2019

    Lydia Greenway
Former England batter on BBC 5 Live Sports Extra

I think Vipers have fielded much better than they did when these teams met the other evening.

They'll be pleased with the couple wickets they've picked up, and at the moment it's evenly poised.

  19. Loughborough 33-2published at 6 overs

    Adams 7, Elwiss 1

A no-ball gives Loughborough a free hit, which Georgia Elwiss can only muscle to mid-off for a single - but it's another no-ball by Lauren Bell, so they'll get another.

This time Bell sends down a wide, but Georgia Adams is lucky from the next legitimate delivery as she edges wide of the keeper for four.

Extras notwithstanding, Bell has 2-15 from her three overs so far.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 5.2 overs

Atapattu lbw Bell 10 (Loughborough 24-2)

A let-off for Georgia Adams as she hammers the ball straight back at Lauren Ball, who cannot hold onto a left-handed chance and the ball ricochets for a single.

But Bell strikes again as Chamari Atapattu is adjudged lbw from her next delivery. It looked a bit leg-sideish, but the umpire is a lot closer than we are.
