  1. 50 runs

for Sam Hainpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Warwickshire 150-2 v Hampshire 539

That's 17th half-century in first-class cricket for the 23-year-old with a push through midwicket off Kyle Abbott and a sprinted single. Now Warwickshire need him to convert it into a ninth hundred.

Rob Yates remains with him on 71 and the 150 is up but Warwickshire still trail by 389.

  2. wicket

WICKET: Bess c Mullaney b Wood 51published at 17:27 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Somerset 273-7 v Nottinghamshire

Notts seamer Luke Wood is the man to get the much-needed breakthrough - his third of the day. He draws the edge from Dom Bess, who is caught in the slips by Nottinghamshire captain Steven Mullaney for 51.

That stand with Steven Davies was worth 128 runs for Somerset.

  3. 50 runs

for Besspublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Somerset 269-6 v Nottinghamshire

With Steven Davies having already reached his 50, Dom Bess has now joined him - taking 99 balls and hitting five boundaries to get there.

These two have now put on 124 for Somerset's seventh wicket to pull them from a position of strife into a position of strength.

  4. Not a lot going on at Chelmsfordpublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Essex 85-2 v Yorkshire 208

This is perhaps the first dull spell we've had at Chelmsford today. Essex batsmen Tom Westley (35) and Dan Lawrence (10) are chugging along nicely while Yorkshire don't look a threat with the ball.

  5. Postpublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Surrey 173-4 v Kent

    Ben FoakesImage source, Rex Features

Sam Curran was never going to maintain his earlier fireworks at The Oval but he's still there on 33 from 47 balls.

Ben Foakes is 24 not out from 71 deliveries, although he had to dive back into his ground to survive an attempted run-out.

  6. wicket

WICKET: Bavuma c Vilas b Onions 103published at 17:15 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Northants 303-5 v Lancashire

Temba Bavuma is caught behind off Graham Onions the ball after reaching his ton.

    Well I never.

  7. 100 runs

for Bavumapublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Northants 303-4 v Lancashire

A wonderful century from South Africa batsman Temba Bavuma that's taken just 125 deliveries and contained 13 fours and three sixes, taking Northamptonshire beyond 300 for the loss of just four wickets.

Lancashire desperately need a breakthrough (or two).

for Hortonpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Leicestershire 78-2 v Durham 117

Leicestershire skipper Paul Horton reaches his 50 as his side close in on Durham's feeble first-innings total. He's hit seven fours and taken 75 balls.

His team have the basis to build a strong lead.

    Northants 281-4 v Lancashire

Northamptonshire skipper Adam Rossington reaches his half-century from 108 balls, including five boundaries and a six. He and Temba Bavuma, who's approaching his ton, have put their side into a very strong position against Lancashire at Wantage Road.

The stand is now worth 133 runs.

  10. Crazy day at Kidderminsterpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Worcestershire 62-5 v Derbyshire 108

There have already been 15 wickets on the opening day of Worcestershire against Derbyshire at Kidderminster - what is going on on that out ground pitch?!

Everyone's chipped in for Derbyshire as they look to fight back after that poor total in their own first innings, but Luis Reece deserves special mention for his opening spell so far.

In five overs, he's taken 2-7.

  11. 50 runs

for Rob Yatespublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Warwickshire 108-2 v Hampshire 539

That's a maiden first-class half-century for Warwickshire's Solihull-born batsman, whose previous best was 49 against Yorkshire in June.

The 19-year-old gets there by clipping Keith Barker to the boundary at fine leg but he has had some luck. He was dropped twice, by Hampshire centurions Ian Holland and Aneurin Donald, the second time on 47.

This partnership with Sam Hain (27 not out) needs to keep going for a while.

  13. Postpublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Warwickshire 101-2 v Hampshire 529

That's the 100 up for Warwickshire as Sam Hain eases Gareth Berg to the cover boundary for four.

  14. wicket

WICKET: Cook c Tattersall b Patterson 27published at 16:38 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Essex 57-2 v Yorkshire 208

Steve Patterson celebrates getting the wicket of Alastair CookImage source, Rex Features

    Big, BIG wicket for Yorkshire.

So often it's the White Rose skipper that gets the breakthrough when it's needed and this time it's no different as Steve Patterson tempts former England captain Alastair Cook into a nudge outside off stump.

The Essex opener edges and is caught behind, breaking what was a tidy second-wicket stand.

  15. Curran on the chargepublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Surrey 136-4 v Kent

If Surrey are taking things steadily against Kent then Sam Curran didn't get the email.

The England all-rounder is 14 not out already from eight balls and has driven Grant Stewart beautifully through the covers for two fours before launching Ollie Raynor over long on for six.

At the other end, Ben Foakes is eight not out from 46 balls and, presumably, wondering whether to join in the fun.

  16. Somerset going wellpublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Somerset 230-6 v Nottinghamshire

Somerset pair Steve Davies and Dom Bess are approaching what is a crucial century stand have recovered their team from dire straits at Taunton.

Notts will have felt they were almost there when the home side were 145-6 but the door to the tail has been firmly shut.

  17. Yorkshire keeping it tightpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Essex 45-1 v Yorkshire 208

Runs have been scored at at least four-an-over today, that is, until Yorkshire brought on South African spinner Keshav Maharaj and the seam of captain Steve Patterson.

Essex duo Alastair Cook and Tom Westley have managed just two runs from the first five overs that the pair have bowled in tandem.

    Miserly stuff from Yorkshire.

  18. wicket

WICKET: Elgar lbw Stewart 63published at 16:27 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Surrey 121-4 v Kent

Nine balls into the evening session and precisely what Surrey didn't want as Dean Elgar is trapped by Grant Stewart.

The big Australian goes wide of the crease, bowling around the wicket to the left-hander, takes him on the pad and persuades the umpire to raise his finger.

Elgar looks far from impressed. Perhaps he thought the angle was taking it past leg stump, but he's on his way after facing 149 balls.

  19. Tea at Grace Roadpublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Leicestershire 39-1 v Durham 117

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

Durham showed no real application with the bat and were skittled out by Leicestershire for just 117 with seven players not even making double figures.

Again it was left to skipper Cameron Bancroft to try and carry the side after a poor start, which saw them reduced to 76-5 by lunch.

But he fell first ball after the break for 36, edging Mo Abbas to the keeper. The expected late Durham partnership, which has been a trademark of this season, didn’t materialise as Chris Wright took 5-30 - his first 5-for for the Foxes.

Hasan Azad and Paul Horton looked comfortable as they took Leicestershire to the fringes of tea before Azad went lbw to former Leicestershire player Ben Raine for 14.

  20. Tea at the Ageas Bowlpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Warwickshire 90-2 v Hampshire 539

The match is fascinatingly poised at tea on the second day with Rob Yates unbeaten on 44 alongside Sam Hain on 19.

Hampshire showed big runs are possible on this surface and one big partnership could get Warwickshire close to the 388 they need to avoid the follow on, but that is still some way away and a couple of quick wickets this evening would leave the hosts in a commanding position.
