  1. wicket

WICKET: Stoneman lbw Podmore 0published at 12:03 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Surrey 1-1 v Kent

No sooner has play begun at The Oval than Surrey have lost a wicket.

It's England opener Mark Stoneman who departs to the second ball of the match, delivered over the wicket to the left-hander by Harry Podmore and nipping back to strike him on the pads.

The finger is raised and Dean Elgar, so long an opening batsman, is at the crease in the first over to join Rory Burns.

  2. Two big omissions at Chelmsfordpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Yorkshire 60-3 v Essex

    David WilleyImage source, Rex Features

Just in case you'd not picked this up, England all-rounder David Willey isn't playing for Yorkshire against Essex at Chelmsford. He hasn't travelled because of personal reasons.

He's not the only notable absentee either. The Essex line-up has no Ravi Bopara, a former England all-rounder himself.

Bopara has missed out because of illness. It's a blow for the home side but they've put it behind them pretty quickly this morning!

  3. Postpublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Hampshire 507-7 v Warwickshire

There is the 500 for Hampshire and it's a former Warwickshire player in Keith Barker who brings it up, dragging Bears captain Jeetan Patel to the fence at midwicket.

He's on 25 with Lewis McManus 29 not out and Hampshire will want to keep the visitors in the field for as long as possible.

  4. Ashwin on for Nottspublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Somerset 37-1 v Notts

Somerset's Jack Leach will attest to the fact that Taunton can often be a haven for spin bowling but his team-mates will be hoping that isn't the case today.

Legendary India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is into the attack for Nottinghamshire. This could end up being a Leach v Ashwin contest to decide the match.

  5. Division Two round-uppublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

Durham have recovered from the early loss of Alex Lees lbw to Leicestershire seamer Mohammad Abbas and are now onto 35 without the loss of another wicket.

Worcestershire have one breakthrough too - Billy Godleman is the man back in the hutch. Derbyshire are now 21-1.

After a delayed start, Middlesex have started well against Gloucestershire and are now 26-0. It's a similar story for Northants versus Lancashire, as they're 32-0.

  6. Postpublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Hampshire 492-7 v Warwickshire

In contrast to the early drama at Chelmsford, it's all much more sedate in Southampton, where Hampshire continue to build an imposing score despite the loss of Gareth Berg.

Lewis McManus has moved on to 24 with Keith Barker keeping him company on 10 and 500 is very much in sight.

  7. Surrey will bat at The Ovalpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

Surrey v Kent - start at 12:00 BST

Kent captain Heino Kuhn has opted against a toss and elected to field first at The Oval.

Perhaps no surprise, given the dampness that delayed the start. They're underway at noon BST.

  8. wicket

WICKET: Fraine c Wheater b Porter 29published at 11:39 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Yorkshire 43-3 v Essex

    What a start for Essex!

Yorkshire's young opener Will Fraine was scoring at quite a pace, 29 from just 32 balls with four boundaries, but he waves a bat at delivery number 33 which is a pitched up one from Jamie Porter outside off stump.

It's feather behind to wicketkeeper Adam Wheater and Essex are off to a flier.

WICKET: Ballance b Siddle 8published at 11:35 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Yorkshire 37-2 v Essex

Gary Ballance clean bowled round his legs by a fast bowler. This is quite bizarre I have to say.

This Peter Siddle delivery doesn't seem to really do anything, it maybe is angled in slightly towards leg stump but the usually reliable Yorkshire batsman simply misjudges it terribly by walking across his stumps and is castled.

    Oh dear.

WICKET: Azhar c Mullaney b Wood 10published at 11:33 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Somerset 22-1 v Notts

First breakthrough of the morning for Nottinghamshire and it comes from Luke Wood's first ball. He tempts Azhar Ali forward and the Somerset opener edges to second slip.

Now THAT is making an impact as first change.

    WICKET: Berg b Hannon-Dalby 15published at 11:23 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Hampshire 473-7 v Warwickshire

There is the breakthrough for Wawickshire and it's a good deliver by Oliver Hannon-Dalby to see off Gareth Berg.

It pitches and straightens and strikes off and middle to send the right-hander back to the pavilion. Can the visitors wrap things up quickly and set about reducing the Hampshire lead?

WICKET: Lyth c Browne b Porter 5published at 11:19 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Yorkshire 18-1 v Essex

Adam Lyth survived a huge appeal for lbw the ball before and didn't make the most of that life.

It's a really loose shot from the Yorkshire left-hander, driving Essex seamer Jamie Porter on the up he hits it sweetly enough but picks out the only man in covers, Nick Browne.

Poor shot from an opening batsman, I've got to be honest.

  13. Noon start at The Ovalpublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

Surrey v Kent - start delayed

Kent at the OvalImage source, Rex Features

The umpires have made a decision and play will start at midday.

We will have the toss at 11.30 and there will be 88 overs in the day with lunch at 1.10pm and tea at 4pm.

  14. Postpublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Hampshire 467-6 v Warwickshire

No early breakthrough for Warwickshire with Hampshire adding 16 to their overnight score.

Lewis McManus has steered Oliver Hannon-Dalby to the boundary behind square on the off side on his way to 11 not out and Gareth Berg has moved along to 15.

  15. Waiting for the umpirespublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

Surrey v Kent - start delayed

    Surrey CCCImage source, Rex Features

We're still waiting on news of a possible start time at The Oval, but the players have been able to warm up despite the damp outfield.

  16. Somerset batting firstpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Somerset 10-0 v Notts

    Talking of intimidating seam pairings...

Notts have Luke Fletcher and Jake Ball to kick things off at Taunton up against Somerset pair Tom Abell and Azhar Ali.

    Nothing noteworthy thus far.

  17. A testing start for Yorkshirepublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Yorkshire 6-0 v Essex

Adam Lyth and Will Fraine are fronting things up for Yorkshire this morning, with the intimidating Essex seam duo of Jamie Porter and Peter Siddle.

The opening couple of overs have shown it's not going to be easy either. Siddle in particular's caused a few problems, forcing a false shot from Fraine outside off stump that flew away to the boundary.

The young batsmen won't be put off though. He'll be full of confidence after hitting his maiden first-class ton in last week's win over champions Surrey at Scarborough.

  18. Play under waypublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

And they're off! Well, six of our eight matches.

Delayed start until 11:15 between Middlesex and Gloucestershire at Merchant Taylors' School and news on the wet outfield at The Oval to follow.

  19. News from the tosspublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Division One

Hampshire 450-6 v Warwickshire after day one.

Essex v Yorkshire - Yorkshire win the toss and will bat.

Somerset v Notts - Somerset win the toss and will bat.

Surrey v Kent - start delayed.

    Division Two

Middlesex v Gloucestershire - toss uncontested, Middlesex to bat.

Leicestershire v Durham - Durham win the toss and will bat.

Northants v Lancashire - toss uncontested, Northants to bat.

Worcestershire v Derbyshire - Derbyshire win the toss and will bat.

  20. Delayed start at The Ovalpublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

Surrey v Kent (start delayed, inspection at 11:00 BST)

Unfortunately rain overnight has been bad enough in south London that play will not start on time at The Oval. Frustration for Surrey and Kent then as there's no sign of rain or bad weather in the capital.

Hopefully it's good news in 10 minutes or so and they'll get it all sorted pretty sharpish.
