  1. wicket

WICKET: Gregory c Ashwin b Ball 9published at 14:47 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Somerset 145-6 v Nottinghamshire

England seamer Jake Ball strikes for Notts to claim his second wicket of the Somerset first innings. It's another full delivery and Lewis Gregory clips it off his toes and straight to Ravi Ashwin at mid on.

    Catching practice.

  2. 200 up for Yorkshirepublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Yorkshire 205-8 v Essex

Because they've scored at such a pace, despite losing so many wickets Yorkshire aren't in a terrible position at all. Chelmsford's hardly been a barring paradise this season and 200-250 in the first innings could well end up being a good score.

Matthew Fisher and Ben Coad are carving the ball around too, so there's no reason why Yorkshire can't nudge this total up. Essex, for all of their threat, are certainly leaking runs.

  3. wicket

WICKET: Burns c Robinson b Stewart 30published at 14:37 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Surrey 73-2 v Kent

That's the end of the Rory Burns as the Surrey skipper is squared up by a seaming delivery from Grant Stewart.

The England opener gets an edge and wicketkeeper Ollie Robinson steps to his left to take a simple catch and give Aussie Stewart a wicket.

    Yorkshire 184-8 v Essex

Steven Patterson of Yorkshire is bowled out by Peter SiddleImage source, Rex Features

Yorkshire captain Steven Patterson didn't hang around. He started by crisply hitting Simon Harmer to the fence but two minutes later he's back in the pavilion as a Peter Siddle delivery keeps a fraction low and clean bowls him.

Essex need two more to finish Yorkshire off. This is an incredible fast first innings. The visitors are scoring at more than four runs an over.

WICKET: Maharaj lbw b Harmer 26published at 14:32 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Yorkshire 177-7 v Essex

Keshav Maharaj can't make the most of that dropped catch by Ryan ten Doeschate only a few minutes ago but in fairness he looks a tad unlucky to me.

Essex spinner Simon Harmer has his fourth victim of the day as Maharaj is out lbw. That really seemed like it was missing leg stump though.

    Harsh at best.

  6. Postpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Warwickshire 31-1 v Hampshire 539

After losing Will Rhodes just before lunch, Warwickshire are taking the slow and steady approach to rebuilding after the resumption.

They are going at just over one run per over in the last 10 but, crucially, Dom Sibley (15 not out) and Rob Yates (9 not out) are still there. They still need another 355 to avoid the follow-on, so it's not time for being gung-ho.

  7. wicket

WICKET: Banton hit wicket Ashwin 25published at 14:29 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Somerset 132-5 v Nottinghamshire

What a bizarre dismissal this is - Tom Banton is out hit wicket.

The Somerset batsman is a bit worried that a delivery from Ravi Ashwin might ricochet on to the stumps but he isn't delicate enough in intervening and knocks the bails off himself.

    Disaster.

  8. dropped catch

Maharaj dropped by ten Doeschatepublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Yorkshire 176-6 v Essex

    I nearly did it again!

Yorkshire's Keshav Maharaj drives through extra-cover and Ryan ten Doeschate makes a great attempt to catch very low to the ground but he can't quite keep hold of the ball.

That would've been a brilliant catch, but the Essex captain still looks very disappointed with himself.

  9. Yorkshire counter-attackingpublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Yorkshire 172-6 v Essex

Matthew Fisher (16) and Keshav Maharaj (21) are building a tidy little partnership here with some aggressive batting for Yorkshire. They've put on 43 in double quick time and hit three sixes and three fours between them.

Every time I write something about a Yorkshire rebuild, Essex get a wicket...

  10. Bad to worse for Derbyshirepublished at 14:21 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Derbyshire 83-8 v Worcestershire

    Dan Wheeler
BBC Hereford & Worcester at Kidderminster

After a morning of discipline with the ball to keep Derbyshire in check, Worcestershire have added some cutting edge after lunch to seize control.

Captain Joe Leach (3-18) unstuck the glue of the Derbyshire innings when he got Luis Reece for 31 with the first ball of the session. He conceded only five scoring shots off his first 60 balls.

Charlie Morris (3-21) then caught the bug, having du Plooy and Dal snaffled in the slips as the visitors slumped from 63-3 to 83-8.

  11. Postpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Surrey 56-1 v Kent

Dean Elgar brings up Surrey's 50 with a push through the covers that brings three runs.

He has 29 and Rory Burns has 23 and, while it hasn't been electric scoring, they are building a handing foundation.

  12. wicket

WICKET: Bartlett b Wood 18published at 14:04 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Somerset 122-4 v Nottinghamshire

Luke Wood gets an early breakthrough after lunch for Nottinghamshire as he clean bowls George Bartlett. Notts are certainly well on top in this one now.

  13. Leach on fire at Kidderminsterpublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Derbyshire 63-6 v Worcestershire

Worcestershire skipper Joe Leach has torn Derbyshire apart since lunch at Kidderminster.

He was on a hat-trick but couldn't quite pull that off. Alas, he had to settle for three wickets in seven balls.

Luis Reece, Harvey Hosein and Matthew Critchley are the men all back in the pavilion and Derbyshire are 63-6.

  14. wicket

WICKET: Tattersall c Wheater b Harmer 23published at 13:45 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Yorkshire 129-6 v Essex

Simon Harmer of Essex celebratesImage source, Rex Features

Simon Harmer is on a hat-trick after Jonny Tattersall nicks behind!

Terrible start for Yorkshire after milking one run from the opening over of the session as Harmer backs up his wicket with the final ball before lunch.

There's a big appeal for lbw against Keshav Maharaj on the hat-trick ball but it's nowhere near and he survives.

Wow Essex are on top now.

  16. Rain at Arundelpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Frustration for Australia A

We have play in all eight County Championship matches but Sussex have been less fortunate with their match against Australia A delayed by overnight rain.

They have had no play before lunch.

  17. England women back in Ashes actionpublished at 13:38 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

While the County Championship players take refreshment, England's women are looking to hit back in the third of three Ashes one-day internationals after losing to Australia in the first two.

Nat Sciver has been among the wickets at Canterbury and there are live updates here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/cricket/48128161

  18. Sibley gets England Lions callpublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

Warwickshire opening batsman Dom Sibley - English county cricket's top run scorer in 2019 - is one of four players chosen to make their England Lions debut next week against Australia A at Canterbury (14-17 July).

Kent opener Zak Crawley, Gloucestershire wicketkeeper/batsman James Bracey and Sussex seamer Ollie Robinson are the other newcomers.

Sibley, who last represented England at Under-19 level in 2014, hit a career-best 244 at Canterbury this week, the highest individual score in the County Championship this season, as he became the first to reach 1,000 first-class runs this season.

Dom Sibley has made 1,069 runs in first-class cricket this season, starting with his ton for the MCC in the champion county match against Surrey in Dubai in MarchImage source, Getty Images

There are three players with Test match experience in the 11-man team, which will be coached by former England coach Andy Flower – surrey wicketkeeper Ben Foakes, Nottinghamshire batsman Ben Duckett and Somerset spinner Jack Leach.

Leach is joined by Somerset colleague Lewis Gregory, who has taken 44 Championship wickets this season - more than any other seamer.

As to who will captain the side, that is yet to be announced.

All the players were due to have been in Championship action for their counties that week.

England Lions XI:James Bracey (Gloucestershire), Zak Crawley (Kent), Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire), Ben Foakes (Surrey), Lewis Gregory (Somerset), Jack Leach (Somerset), Saqib Mahmood (Lancashire), Sam Northeast (Hampshire), Jamie Porter (Essex), Ollie Robinson (Sussex), Dom Sibley (Warwickshire)

  19. Anderson injury updatepublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

England paceman to miss next two Lancashire matches

    James AndersonImage source, Getty Images

Some concerning news is emerging this morning for fans of Lancashire and England with James Anderson set to miss his county's next two matches with a calf muscle tear he picked up against Durham on Tuesday.

That leaves England's all-time leading wicket-taker with limited time to prove his fitness ahead of the Test against Ireland, starting at Lord's on 24 July, and the opening Ashes Test at Edgbaston from 1 August.

  20. Interval at Leicesterpublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Durham 76-5 v Leicestershire

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle at Grace Road

Durham chose to bat here and have not had the best of mornings. Alex Lees went for just five, LBW to Mo Abbas in the fifth over and they have lost wickets regularly.

Although Gareth Harte put on 34 for the second wicket with skipper Cameron Bancroft, his departure for 18, LBW to Chris Wright, sparked a collapse which saw Durham lose 4-19 in 8.2 overs.

It’s as if we are just waiting for the inevitable partnership to develop so the rest of the innings can be edited out. Bancroft has 36 and Ned Eckersley six.

Meanwhile those approaching the ground today would have been shocked to see the Cricketer’s Pub on Grace Road cordoned off by police.

Scenes of crime officers are at the scene and police say 10 people were taken to hospital following a chemical incident there last night, three of them police officers. It is believed a chemical was sprayed during an incident involving a gang armed with baseball bats.
