  1. Lunch at The Ovalpublished at 13:21 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Surrey 35-1 v Kent

A sedate morning with just 18 overs bowled thanks to the delayed start.

Surrey were rocked by the early loss of Mark Stoneman and since then Rory Burns (18 not out) and Dean Elgar (13 not out) have dug in.

  2. Northamptonshire's morningpublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Northants 104-1 v Lancashire

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

When confirmation came through that James Anderson would miss not only this game but Lancashire’s match next week against Sussex yet another bowler was limping from the field.

Josh Bohannon, the fourth seamer in the team has a knee injury and hasn’t been seen since, adding to Lancashire’s frustrations as they beat the bat on countless occasions.

Credit to the Northants batsmen Ricardo Vasconcelos and Richard Levi, who with a little good fortune have played nicely and the home side have enjoyed an excellent morning session.

More on that Jimmy Anderson injury to follow...

  3. Lunch across Division Twopublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

Wickets galore this morning in Division Two! Probably best just to rattle through the scores for you:

    • Durham 76-5 v Leicestershire
    • Middlesex 70-2 v Gloucestershire
    • Northamptonshire 104-1 v Lancashire
    • Derbyshire 63-3 v Worcestershire

Too much to scribble down for you there. I'm not a machine.

  4. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Somerset 111-3 v Nottinghamshire

A fairly even morning session then but I'd wager that Nottinghamshire will be the happier side as Somerset have two fairly new batsmen at the crease now thanks to Jake Ball's dismissal of James Hildreth for 44 not long before the interval.

Prior to that Ravi Ashwin dismissed Tom Abell and Luke Wood got rid of Azhar Ali, neither of whom made noteworthy contributions.

  5. Lunch in Southamptonpublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Warwickshire 15-1 v Hampshire 539

A morning that belonged to Olly Stone but a match which has so far belonged to Hampshire.

The hosts added 89 to their overnight total for the loss of four wickets and then removed Will Rhodes on the stroke of lunch.

But Warwickshire fans will be thrilled to see Stone back and among the wickets after six months on the sidelines. He claimed 5-93.

WICKET: Rhodes c McManus b Abbott 9published at 13:04 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Warwickshire 15-1 v Hampshire 539

Not the end to the session that Warwickshire wanted as Will Rhodes nicks behind off Kyle Abbott.

Lewis McManus does the business with the gloves. The wicket brings lunch with the Bears still 524 adrift.

  7. WICKET: Brook b Harmer 46published at 13:02 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Yorkshire 128-5 v Essex

What a brilliant morning's cricket. Yorkshire had fought back through a stand of 59 between Harry Brook (46) and Jonny Tattersall (22) after Essex had totally dominated, but Brook was out to the final ball of the session.

So often Simon Harmer is the man they call upon for a breakthrough and he clean bowled him. Jamie Porter has taken two wickets as well with Peter Siddle grabbing one.

That's turned a great morning into a fabulous one for Essex.

  8. Hundred up for Somersetpublished at 12:53 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Somerset 107-3 v Nottinghamshire

Somerset haven't messed about since James Hildreth's dismissal, with George Bartlett starting life at the crease with a couple of boundaries either side of the home side reaching three figures.

  9. wicket

WICKET: Hildreth c Mullaney b Ball 44published at 12:47 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Somerset 96-3 v Nottinghamshire

A big wicket for Notts and Jake Ball as he gets rid of James Hildreth who was on the verge of his half-century. The Somerset batsman won't be happy.

If anything it's over-pitched from the England seamer but Hildreth gets a big edge to it and Steven Mullaney takes the catch in the slips.

  10. Postpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Warwickshire 8-0 v Hampshire 539

Two boundaries for Will Rhodes in the opening over from Fidel Edwards, both tucked off his legs to the boundary as the former West Indies paceman goes too straight.

The Warwickshire reply is off to a decent start but there's a long way to go.

for Vasconcelospublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Northants 83-1 v Lancashire

We have our first half-century up of the matches on day one.

Ricardo Vasconcelos has reached the milestone in 70 balls for Northants against Lancashire, hitting nine fours.

  12. Postpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Surrey 14-1 v Kent

To put it mildly, it's been a watchful start for Surrey after the loss of Mark Stoneman to the second ball of the match following a delayed start.

Captain Rory Burns has seven from 30 balls and Dean Elgar has faced 51 balls for his five not out.

  13. Hundred up for Yorkshirepublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Yorkshire 102-4 v Essex

Jonny Tattersall (14) and Harry Brook (28) have taken Yorkshire into three figures as they try and rebuild following a difficult morning.

This partnership is HUGE in the context of the match as well because Yorkshire tail is an extended one for this match. Young fast bowler Matthew Fisher, who is at best an inexperienced all-rounder, is the next man in.

He's back in the side after a long absence because David Willey is unavailable.

  14. Division Two round-uppublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

Plenty of wickets falling in Division Two this morning.

Durham are 55-4 against Leicestershire - Chris Wright has two wickets - but the home side will still be desperate to get rid of captain and Australia opener Cameron Bancroft, who's scored the bulk of the runs.

Middlesex are 55-2 having lost bother openers. Skipper Dawid Malan's just arrived at the crease and will no doubt still have a potential Ashes call-up on his mind. I imagine it's some way towards the back though, given that his team are bottom of the table.

Derbyshire are 46-3 against Worcestershire with opener Luis Reece holding that innings together at the moment.

And Northants are the only batting side making good progress. They are 77-1 against Lancashire with Rob Newton the only man out. Fellow opening batsman Ricardo Vasconcelos is closing in on a half-century.

Hampshire 539 all out v Warwickshire

    Olly StoneImage source, Rex Features

All two-ball innings go, that one was fairly eventful from Fidel Edwards. He tries to help his first delivery from Olly Stone to the leg side but sends it over the slips for four, then attempts to launch the second into orbit and is caught in the deep on the off side by Rob Yates.

Stone claims five wickets on his long-awaited return - a notable comeback for him, Warwickshire and potentially England's selectors.

That's the end of Hampshire's innings and some serious batting awaits the Bears.

  16. wicket

WICKET: Abbott lbw Stone 1published at 12:26 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Hampshire 535-9 v Warwickshire

There's another and it's Kyle Abbott who departs to the second ball he faces.

Olly Stone claims the wicket - his fourth in his first senior innings since getting injured on England duty in January and Hampshire's last pair are at the crease.

Abbott is struck on the knee roll of his back pad by a ball that jags back sharply and the umpire sends him on his way.

  17. wicket

WICKET: Barker c Hose b Mike 35published at 12:21 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Hampshire 533-8 v Warwickshire

Keith Barker's handy cameo comes to an end as he attempts to hoick Ben Mike behind square on the leg side but gets a top edge and is caught in the deep by Adam Hose.

Warwickshire's openers will be turning their attention to what, their supporters will hope, is a lengthy mission to achieve first-innings parity.

    Somerset 52-2 v Notts

Tom Moores and Ravichandran Ashwin of Nottinghamshire celebrate the wicket of Tom Abell of SomersetImage source, Getty Images

Ravi Ashwin makes a breakthrough - something I feel we could be writing a fair bit over the next few days. The Indian spinner's been miserly in his opening spell for Notts with only nine runs coming from five overs.

Tom Abell just isn't sure how to play him and a classic bat-pad dismissal gives Ben Slater the catch at short leg.

    Super bowling, and fielding.

    Kiss. Of. Death.

I don't tend to believe things like this but I'm coming round to the idea that commentator's curse is an actual thing. If I did play a role, I apologise to everyone connected to Yorkshire CCC.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore did not even wait for umpire Rob Bailey to give him out lbw, so plumb was he to Essex's prolific spinner Simon Harmer. This was clattering in to middle stump and he simply walked off as soon as he felt the thud in his pad.

Yorkshire's mini revival is over and they are bang in trouble.

  20. Boring at Chelmsford nowpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 7 July 2019

    Yorkshire 69-3 v Essex

Tom Kohler-Cadmore has moved on to 16 and Harry Brook to 10 as Yorkshire rebuild following a hectic opening half-hour that saw them lose three wickets and quickly reach 50.

They'll be happy that things have chilled out a bit now and will be aiming to keep it less exciting up to the lunch break.

Earlier Essex seamer Jamie Porter snared his second wicket to reduce the visitors to 43-3 in just the ninth over of the match.
