  1. Goodbye and good nightpublished at 18:46 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

That's that ladies and gents. Four games done, four games to go.

We shall return for the final day at 10:45 BST tomorrow.

    Thanks for reading.

  2. Stumps at Leicesterpublished at 18:45 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Leicestershire 58-1 v Durham - target 393

Leicestershire get to the close for the loss of just one wicket at Grace Road.

They'll need another 335 runs tomorrow to pull off a very unlikely win.

  3. MIDDLESEX BEAT GLOUCESTERSHIRE BY 78 RUNSpublished at 18:39 British Summer Time 9 July 2019
    Breaking

    Gloucestershire 137 v Middlesex - target 215

Toby Roland-Jones bowls Chadd Sayers and completes his 10-for. Incredible match figures of 10-79. That is fabulous from the Middlesex seamer.

His side are now off the bottom of Division Two.

If we're praising Roland-Jones, Tim Murtagh deserves a mention for his 5-44 that spearheaded his team in this second innings, securing a much-needed second victory of the season.

  4. Stumps at The Ovalpublished at 18:32 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Surrey 271 & 179-6 v Kent 369

Sure enough, that's it for the day.

Sam Curran will resume tomorrow on 22 with Rikki Clarke unbeaten on 19.

Surrey already have a lead of 81, and they will believe if they can extend it to around 150 they can present Kent with a tricky final-day chase.

    An intriguing morning lies ahead.

  5. Bad light stops playpublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Surrey 271 & 179-6 v Kent 369

Bad light has brought a premature end to the first two days of this match.

If the same is true this evening Surrey will start the final day 81 runs ahead with four wickets in hand in their second innings.

  6. Stumps at Kiddermisterpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Worcestershire 156-5 v Derbyshire - target 373

Worcestershire will start the final day with five wickets in hand, needing another 217 runs to win. It looked like this game would be done tonight before a superb centurion stand between Callum Ferguson (71 not out) and Ben Cox (44 not out).

Maybe all three results are still possible...

    Derbyshire huge favourites though.

  7. HAMPSHIRE DRAW WITH WARWICKSHIREpublished at 18:16 British Summer Time 9 July 2019
    Breaking

    Hampshire 539 & 171-8d v Warwickshire 307 & 347-8

What a result for Warwickshire. They looked dead and buried for most of the day but they have somehow held on thanks to Sam Hain, Ben Mike, Jeetan Patel and Henry Brookes.

Hain made his second century of the match and Mike bagged his maiden first-class 50 to give them hope before Patel and Brookes survived 27.2 overs in a ninth-wicket stand of 112. The Bears lost just five wickets all day.

Hampshire will be gutted, though. They have not won in the Championship since May and their title hopes are fading fast.

  8. Stumps at Northamptonpublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Northants 442 & 214-6 v Lancashire 315

Bad light stops play for the day with Northamptonshire having batted themselves into a very strong position. With four wickets still in hand they lead by 341 runs, so you'd expect a little dart in the morning to set up a run chase and the home side could yet force victory.

  9. Into the final overpublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Warwickshire 343-8 v Hampshire - target 404

  10. Three overs leftpublished at 18:06 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Warwickshire 331-8 v Hampshire - target 404

Jeetan Patel has 63. Henry Brookes has 27.

This pair have added 96 for the ninth wicket and are within sight of a superb draw.

But it only takes one ball to take a wicket and Hampshire just need two. They have 18 chances remaining.

  11. SOMERSET BEAT NOTTS BY 132 RUNSpublished at 18:05 British Summer Time 9 July 2019
    Breaking

    Notts 122 v Somerset - target 255

Jake Ball is bowled by Jamie OvertonImage source, Getty Images

Jamie Overton clean bowls Jake Ball to take his fourth scalp of the innings and Somerset have impressively taken care of Nottinghamshire in just 43.5 overs. An emphatic win at Taunton that means they stay at the top of the Division One table.

Somerset were momentarily replaced by Essex earlier today after their victory over Yorkshire at Chelmsford, but that has been short-lived.

A real gap is now emerging to the chasing pack. This could be a two-horse title race now.

Nottinghamshire stay rooted to the bottom of the table.

  12. Five overs to survive or two wickets to takepublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Warwickshire 319-8 v Hampshire

All of a sudden a draw is starting to look like the favourite result.

  13. wicket

    WICKET: Patterson-White b J Overton 2published at 17:58 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Notts 110-9 v Somerset - target 255

Liam Patterson-White just had absolutely no idea there.

Jamie Overton kept it very simple to the tailender. He ran up and bowled as fast, as full and as straight as he could.

    Stumps gone.

    Notts nine down.

  14. wicket

WICKET: Fletcher c Groenewald b Bess 6published at 17:51 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Notts 108-8 v Somerset - target 255

Dom Bess celebrates with his Somerset team-matesImage source, Getty Images

Luke Fletcher tries to whack Dom Bess out of the park. Unsurprisingly it did not work.

He skies it and Tim Groenewald takes an eays catch at mid-off.

Two more wickets needed for Somerset and 147 runs required for Notts.

  15. for Tim Murtaghpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Gloucestershire 99-9 v Middlesex - target 215

    One more needed for Middlesex.

Tim Murtagh takes his fifth scalp by having Josh Shaw caught behind down the legside. Middlesex are about to climb off the bottom of the Division Two table.

    Murtagh's figures are 5-38. Wow.

  16. wicket

WICKET: Elgar lbw Stevens 65published at 17:47 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Surrey 271 & 145-5 v Kent 369

Three wickets for Darren Stevens as he swings one back in to the left-handed Dean Elgar and gets a fairly easy lbw decision in his favour.

Elgar was the man most likely to help Surrey build a challenging advantage.

Fourteen overs left today. The lead is 47.

  17. It's getting tensepublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

Warwickshire 314-8 v Hampshire - eight overs remaining

Jeetan Patel has 58. Henry Brookes has 17. The partnership is worth 73 for the ninth wicket and Patel has just taken six runs off two balls.

Kyle Abbott and Fidel Edwards are back on for Hampshire, who are looking for a first win in five games and looked certain to get it a couple of hours ago.

  18. wicket

    WICKET: Duckett c Gregory b J Overton 13published at 17:43 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Notts 102-7 v Somerset - target 255

Ben Duckett, Nottinghamshire's last recognised batsman, goes big and goes home as he looks to deposit Jamie Overton over the deep point boundary.

    Lewis Gregory takes the catch.

Three more for Somerset to snare.

  19. wicket

Two more needed for Middlesexpublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Gloucestershire 91-8 v Middlesex - target 215

Tim Murtagh gets his fourth wicket of the innings and just two more are needed for Middlesex to close this out tonight. Glos need 124 more runs.

Not a pretty sight for David Payne as the Gloucestershire tailender looks behind to see his leg stump a few feet further away than it should be.

  20. 50 runs

for Jeetan Patelpublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Warwickshire 304-8 v Hampshire - target 404

Surely they can't get a draw out of this... Can they?

The Warwickshire skipper brings up his half-century with a lovely on drive off Gareth Berg. Just over 10 overs remaining and Hampshire must be getting nervous now.
