    Warwickshire 219-6 v Hampshire - target 404

What a match for Sam Hain, who has a century in each innings. It will probably still be in a losing cause, but he has given Warwickshire a glimmer of hope that they could rescue a draw.

Hain has received excellent support from Ben Mike, who is 68 not out.

  2. Game turned on its headpublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Durham 117 & 413-6 v Leicestershire 212

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle at Grace Road

Bernard is a Durham regular on Twitter and contacted us today to say on day one he believed a draw was out of the question from a Durham point of view.

They had been bowled out for 117 - their lowest total of the season - and Bernard adds any thoughts of a win simply weren’t in his head. Nor, I doubt, anyone else’s head either.

But they have turned this game around now and at tea they are 413-6 in their second innings and have a lead of 318.

How long they bat on for here remains to be seen. They did lose 3-1 in 2.4 overs at one point, but that was after Nathan Rimmington made 92 and Alex Lees had been dismissed for 92.

  3. Tea at Northamptonpublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Northants 442 & 95-3 v Lancashire 315

After losing some early wickets, Northants have rebuilt to extend their lead to 222 at tea thanks to Rob Newton (45 not out) and Rob Keogh (40 not out).

The hosts are moving into an unbeatable position pretty quickly.

  4. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Essex 34-1 v Yorkshire - target 92

    Ben CoadImage source, Rex Features

Essex get to tea for the loss of only Alastair Cook to Steve Patterson. 58 more runs are needed for victory which Yorkshire will need something incredible to deny.

There near impossible task has been made that much harder too by the absence of Ben Coad. He hasn't come out to field, or more importantly open the bowling, for this second innings because of what we can only assume is an injury.

More on that later I'm sure.

  5. Tea at Southamptonpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Warwickshire 217-6 v Hampshire - target 404

That is a fantastic effort by Warwickshire, who have won that session emphatically after winning very few during the course of the match. They added 98 runs and lost no wickets.

Sam Hain is just two runs short of his second century of the match, Ben Mike has 68 and their partnership is worth 114 and counting.

We can discount the idea of a Warwickshire win - they would need almost six runs an over in the final session, which would be a hell of a task with all 10 wickets in hand, never mind four.

But the way they have batted means they must have faint hope of digging in for a draw. There is the prospect, however, of a new ball just around the corner for Kyle Abbott and Fidel Edwards.

  6. Tea at Tauntonpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Notts 31-2 v Somerset - target 255

Jake Libby and Ben Slater have both been removed by Somerset's left-arm spinner Jack Leach in their 12 overs of batting pre-tea. They still need another 224 runs to win.

It would be a real surprise of this match made into a fourth day, such is the spinning nature of the wicket at Taunton.

  7. Tea at The Ovalpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Surrey 271 and 90-1 v Kent 369

A good effort from Rory Burns and Dean Elgar means there is nothing to choose between the teams.

Burns is 37 and Elgar 33 at the interval and Surrey trail by eight.

Bear in mind they might only have eight wickets in hand, depending on whether Gareth Batty is well enough to bat second time around.

  8. wicket

    WICKET: Cook c Kohler-Cadmore b Patterson 6published at 15:37 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Essex 22-1 v Yorkshire - target 92

Second time lucky for Tom Kohler-Cadmore in the slips as he takes a smart low catch to get rid of Alastair Cook. Yorkshire captain Steve Patterson is the man who took the edge.

Just for the record, it wasn't really a drop that first one from Kohler-Cadmore. Not a dolly or anything like that. In fact I'd possibly argue wicketkeeper Jonny Tattersall should've been taking it instead.

Just the 70 more for Essex to get.

  9. dropped catch

Cook dropped by Kohler-Cadmorepublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Essex 19-0 v Yorkshire - target 92

Most of Essex's runs have come from false shots as Yorkshire seam duo Steve Patterson and Matthew Fisher have had a real impact.

What you don't need when you're defending a target of 92 is to drop catches. First-slip fielder Tom Kohler-Cadmore couldn't hold on to a chance afforded to him by Alastair Cook though.

  10. wicket

WICKET: Slater c Banton b Leach 2published at 15:21 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Notts 21-2 v Somerset - target 255

What a catch by Tom Banton at a deepish short leg to get rid of Ben Slater off the bowling of Jack Leach.

Slater tries to whip Leach away into the leg side and times it well but Banton sticks out his right hand instinctively.

He doesn't grab it cleanly but amazingly parries it into his left hand and it sticks at the second attempt. Notts have a mountain to climb from here.

MIDDLESEX 244 ALL OUT - GLOS NEED 216 TO WINpublished at 15:09 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Middlesex 172 & 244 v Gloucestershire 201

Chadd Sayers finishes things off for Gloucestershire by taking the final two Middlesex wickets and bowling them out for 244. It means Glos will have a target of 216.

  12. wicket

YORKSHIRE 211 ALL OUT - ESSEX NEED 92 TO WINpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Yorkshire 208 & 211 v Essex 328

Ben Coad is last man out for 18 as he edges Jamie Porter to first slip and the man taking the catch, Alastair Cook, runs straight off to get his pads on.

Yorkshire's wag of the tail, led by 85 from Kesh Maharaj, has meant Essex will actually have something to chase, albeit it's just 92.

This will be all over tonight though.

  13. wicket

WICKET: Libby b lbw Leach 0published at 15:03 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Notts 2-1 v Somerset - target 255

Somerset go with the spin of Jack Leach to open the bowling and it works a treat. He gets some grip with the new ball and Jake Libby is trapped lbw.

Already 255 to win looks even harder than it did already.

  14. 50 runs

for Ben Mikepublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Warwickshire 174-6 v Hampshire - target 404

When Warwickshire signed Ben Mike on loan from Leicestershire it probably wasn't for his batting but he has played an excellent hand today.

He brings up his maiden first-class half-century from 89 balls by chipping Felix Organ behind square on the leg side for a single.

Still plenty of overs remaining but Hampshire must be getting frustrated. How long before frustration turns to concern?

  15. 50 runs

for Roland-Jonespublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Middlesex 172 & 225-8 v Gloucestershire 201

A vital 50 from Toby Roland-Jones for Middlesex. His side are now on to 225-8 with a lead of 196.

These could well prove to be 50 vital runs.

  16. 50 up for Surreypublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Surrey 271 & 59-1 v Kent 369

Captain Rory Burns and the experienced Dean Elgar have steadied the Surrey ship after the loss of Mark Stoneman.

They still trail by 39 but, with nine second-innings wickets in hand, it wouldn't take too much of a swing to put them game in the melting pot ahead of the final day.

Burns has 23 and Elgar 19.

  17. SOMERSET 169 ALL OUT - NOTTS SET 255 TO WINpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Somerset 326 & 169 v Notts 241

Liam Patterson-White completes his five-for, ending with figures of 5-73 by having Jack Leach at short leg. Somerset are dismissed for 169 and Notts need 255 to win. Azhar Ali finishes on 65 not out.

All 10 wickets were taken by spin, with Ravi Ashwin finishing up with 5-59.

  18. Worcs in troublepublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Worcestershire 26-3 v Derbyshire - target 373

    Dan Wheeler
BBC Hereford & Worcester at Kidderminster

The last time Worcestershire scored 373 to win a Championship match was, funnily enough, against Derbyshire at New Road in 2002.

Hopes of a repeat, at the moment, have slimmed down drastically inside the first dozen overs after the hosts lost Daryl Mitchell (7), Josh Dell, who bagged a pair, and Riki Wessels (4).

Much now rests on shoulders of Australian Callum Ferguson and the collection of big-hitting all-rounders to come.

With four and a half sessions left in the match, time isn't a problem but Derbyshire's waspish attack certainly is.

WICKET: Maharaj b Siddle 85published at 14:41 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Yorkshire 208 & 193-9 v Essex 328

Kesh Maharaj walks off after making 85 for YorkshireImage source, Rex Features

Peter Siddle ends the entertainment, going some way to making up for his drop of Keshav Maharaj when he was on just 43.

The Essex seamer bowls fairly full, but most importantly straight. It doesn't really bounce and it clean bowls the South African to deny him the chance to close in on a ton.

A superb knock though, seven fours and five sixes in just 71 balls. He gets a standing ovation from all sides of Chelmsford and rightly so too - applause he acknowledges.

    The lead is 73 runs.

  20. for Ravi Ashwinpublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Somerset 166-9 & 326 v Notts 241

Jamie Overton is caught behind and that's five wickets for Ravi Ashwin to end what was a superb 50-run stand between Overton and Azhar Ali.

It's taken the Somerset lead beyond 250. A great bowling performance from Ashwin but he will have work to do with the bat too.
