WICKET: Ambrose c Rahane b Barker 14published at 12:49 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Warwickshire 103-6 v Hampshire - target 404

Damn you Keith Barker! The dream of a Kyle Abbott 10-fer is over but a Hampshire win is a little bit closer as Tim Ambrose goes.

He fends at a rising delivery and gets it high up on the outside edge, presenting a catch to Ajinkya Rahane at a wide second slip.

  2. KENT 369 ALL OUTpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Kent 369 v Surrey 271

Harry Podmore is the last man out and that's a carbon copy of Rayner's wicket.

Same ball from Rikki Clarke, same result as Podmore's stumps are rearranged.

    The lead is 98.

WICKET: Fisher lbw b Harmer 16published at 12:48 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Yorkshire 208 & 110-7 v Essex 328

A brief counter-attacking partnership between Matthew Fisher and Keshav Maharaj is over, but they've pulled Yorkshire to within 10 runs of Essex.

Fisher is the latest to be trapped lbw this morning - three of Yorkshire's four dismissals have come that way - as the spin of Simon Harmer does for him.

I can't imagine Maharaj will stop swinging though. Good luck to him too, fortune favours the brave and all that.

WICKET: Davies lbw b Ashwin 2published at 12:41 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Somerset 94-6 & 326 v Notts 241

It's all falling apart for Somerset! Steven Davies is gone for two as Ravi Ashwin traps him lbw to take his fourth wicket.

They still lead by 179 runs though, which on this Taunton pitch look pretty good.

WICKET: Rayner b Clarke 6published at 12:40 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Kent 364-9 v Surrey 271

That's a lovely wicket for Rikki Clarke as Ollie Raynor departs.

Clarke swings a ball away from the right-hander then seams it back between bat and pad and hits the stumps.

WICKET: Stevens c Stoneman b Elgar 29published at 12:39 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Kent 364-8 v Surrey 271

Well that's an odd way to get out as Darren Stevens falls to the occasional left-arm spin of Dean Elgar, but what a catch.

Stevens tries to work it into the leg side but lifts it to Mark Stoneman at midwicket and the England opener flies to his right to grab it at full stretch.

  7. Lees falls short but Durham make haypublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

Durham 279-2, lead Leicestershire by 182

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

Alex Lees was on 93 when he tried to pull a short ball from Gavin Griffiths and ended up gloving it down the legside to the keeper, missing out on his third century of the season.

But he did add 71 for the second wicket with nightwatchman Nathan Rimmington and the latter has reached his second 50 in two games. He came in at number three last night, having batted at number seven at Sedbergh last week.

It’s sunny in Leicester and at the moment it’s a case of how big a lead Durham want to build.

    WICKET: Bartlett b Patterson-White 0published at 12:31 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Somerset 79-5 & 326 v Notts 241

This is a proper collapse now. George Bartlett is clean bowled by Liam Patterson-White for a duck after trying to cut a ball that was neither short nor wide enough.

All five wickets in this Somerset second innings have fallen to spin, following the same pattern as the Nottinghamshire first innings.

  9. 50 runs

for Sam Hainpublished at 12:28 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Warwickshire 96-5 v Hampshire - target 404

Hain, who got a century in the first innings, brings up 50 in the second with a flick for four off Fidel Edwards when the West Indies paceman strays onto his pads.

That's meat and drink for a batsman in form.

  10. wicket

    WICKET: Banton lbw b Patterson-White 4published at 12:24 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Somerset 75-4 & 326 v Notts 241

Wow Notts have suddenly smashed through the Somerset batting line-up. That's three wickets for 19 runs.

Tom Banton is the next man to go as he's trapped lbw by Notts' debutant left-arm spinner Liam Patterson-White.

  11. wicket

WICKET: Robinson lbw Clarke 36published at 12:21 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Kent 350-7 v Surrey 271

Rikki Clarke does what Rikki Clarke does as a medium-pace delivery swings a long way, strikes Ollie Robinson on the pad and persuades the umpire to raise his finger.

    It looked stone dead.

Can Kent get themselves 100 in front with three wickets left?

  12. Abbott off at Southamptonpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Warwickshire 81-5 - target 404

Come one, we all secretly long to see a '10-fer' in an innings, but if Kyle Abbott is to get it at the Ageas Bowl then Warwickshire will need to stand firm for a while.

He's having a breather with Fidel Edwards delivering pace from one end Felix Organ bowling his off breaks at the other.

Sam Hain has 37 and Tim Ambrose 10.

  13. wicket

WICKET: Tattersall c Lawrence b Harmer 14published at 12:16 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Yorkshire 208 & 81-6 v Essex 328

Jonny Tattersall is NOT happy with the umpire's decision here. He waits quite a while, there's a bit of head shaking and staring, but he walks off in the end.

The Yorkshire wicketkeeper-batsman is adjudged to have nicked Essex spinner Simon Harmer to leg slip but he obviously believes it came only off his pad.

What matter is that Yorkshire are six down and need 39 more runs to avoid an innings defeat. Not looking good for that is it.

  14. wicket

WICKET: Hildreth c Moores b Aswhin 7published at 12:16 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Somerset 70-3 & 326 v Notts 241

Three from three for Ravi Ashwin now as James Hildreth doesn't last long as he comes down the track trying to swipe one that bounces and turns. How often doesn't one wicket bring two?

Maybe this is a spinning top after all.

What's unclear from this dismissal is whether Hildreth was bowled, caught or stumped. Wicketkeeper Tom Moores made absolutely sure, but it really is difficult to tell!

  15. Rules are rulespublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Gareth BattyImage source, Getty Images

ECB regulations state: “No player may be replaced after the umpire has called Play before the first ball of the match other than in the circumstances of 1.3 and 1.4.”

Regulation 1.3 relates to players being called up or released by international sides while 1.4 concerns concussion.

So Notts were allowed to bring in Samit Patel for a concussed Chris Nash yesterday but Surrey were prevented from replacing an unwell Gareth Batty despite Kent giving the move their blessing

And ICC regulations state a match would lose its first-class status if players were switched for any other reason, so had Amar Virdi made it to the middle at The Oval it would have opened a whole can of worms.

All sounds a bit mean to me. Why can't teams be allowed to be nice to each other?

  16. Kent lead increasingpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Kent 325-6 v Surrey 271

Back at The Oval and Kent are still pulling ahead with Darren Stevens on 9 and Ollie Robinson on 26.

Meanwhile, let's clear up the rules involved in yesterday's Gareth Batty saga.

    Curse, of, the, commentator.

The breakthrough that was needed for Nottinghamshire has arrived, and via the most likely wicket-taker. That being said, it wasn't exactly a good delivery.

Somerset captain Tom Abell looked to give a Ravi Ashwin full toss the treatment but hits it straight at short-leg fielder Ben Slater. While taking evasive action, the ball sticks in Slater's arms/shirt/midriff or a combination of all three.

Abell walks back to the pavilion, no doubt chuntering to himself about how unlucky he's been.

  18. Somerset building big leadpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Somerset 55-1 & 326 v Notts 241

Somerset are gradually moving into what could well be a match-winning position at Taunton. After Jack Leach and Dom Bess spun Nottinghamshire out yesterday it looked as though Ravi Ashwin in particular would have similar success for the visitors today.

    Not so.

Tom Abell and Azhar Ali have shared a half-century stand and taken the Somerset lead well beyond 100. Notts really are in need of a breakthrough if they're to stay in this match.

  19. Siddle on firepublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Yorkshire 208 & 65-5 v Essex 328

    Peter SiddleImage source, Rex Features

I just want to get these figures down in print in case when he comes back on one over gets tonked and they don't look so pretty. Essex's Aussie paceman Peter Siddle has been phenomenal.

He's taken 3-7 from 11 overs - including seven maidens!

Glos strike twice against Middlesexpublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 9 July 2019

    Middlesex 172 & 116-5 v Gloucestershire 201

It's been a great start for Gloucestershire at Merchant Taylors' School. Josh Shaw had Middlesex captain David Malan caught behind for eight and Chadd Sayers followed that up by having George Scott caught at slip.

That doesn't explain the dismissal. There was a fair amount of juggling between slip fielders before Benny Howell eventually kept hold.
