WICKET: Godleman st Rossington b Sanderson 25published at 17:15 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Northants 342 & 122, Derbyshire 146 & 41-1

    Fun while it lasted.

Having given Ben Sanderson the charge and been rewarded with a huge six into the legside off the fast - yes FAST - bowler's previous over, Billy Godleman goes down the track again.

I'm emphasising the speed because Northants captain Adam Rossington decided enough was enough and stood up to the stumps to try and negate the cheeky opening batsman.

    Dot, dot, stumped.

Swing and a miss from Billy and the fun is done.

  2. Derbyshire teeing offpublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Northants 342 & 122, Derbyshire 146 & 41-0

Bit mad at Chesterfield. Derbyshire are going at 10-an-over.

If Jason Roy and Jonny B had started like this at Lord's yesterday, we wouldn't have had all of that drama you know.

Does Bill Godleman offer free lessons in slogging? He has 25 from eight balls - four fours and one six. Luis Reece's 12 from 17 is boring.

  3. Bears aim to repeat heroics of last weekpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Essex 245 & 169-5 v Warwickshire 161 & 23-0

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex at Chelmsford

Needing 401 Warwickshire, realistically, can only hope to minimise any damage this evening and then look to repeat last week's remarkable feat of batting out time at the Ageas Bowl.

It would be an even greater achievement to survive here without Dom Sibley and Sam Hain, who are involved in the Lions match at Canterbury.

Essex will be confident of maintaining their 100% home record, although Warwickshire should become only the second side this season to take a Chelmsford match into a fourth day.

  4. Hampshire steady ship after early wicketpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Hampshire 409-9 dec & 35-1 v Kent 555

Hampshire are reacting well to the early loss of Felix Organ, with Ajinkya Rahane coming in to score 15 from 19 balls.

The hosts are 35-1, Ian Holland (13*) scoring at a much more modest rate as they trail Kent by 111 runs.

  5. wicket

WICKET Sibley lbw b M Marsh 74published at 17:00 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

Australian XI 397, England Lions 159-5

After four hours and 194 balls of resistance (and only eight boundaries), Dom Sibley is out.

The Warwickshire opener goes 26 short of another century in his run-filled summer, trapped leg before wicket by Mitchell Marsh. But he has certainly given the England selectors firm first-hand evidence that he can occupy the crease for lengthy periods.

A lot of debate is already raging over who might or might not bat for England in this summer's Ashes series. And this will not have done Sibley's chances any harm.

  6. Survival the aim for Bearspublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Essex 245 & 316-9 dec v Warwickshire 161 & 11-0

Peter Siddle and Matt Quinn opening the bowling for Essex, with Warwickshire 11-0 after four overs.

Can Will Rhodes and Liam Banks survive this session and bat again tomorrow morning?

That will be their aim. It wouldn't guarantee the Bears a result but would certainly give them a chance. They need another 390 runs to win at Chelmsford.

Incidentally, the highest run chase by any side in the County Championship this season was Leicestershire getting 230 to win at Hove against Sussex.

In Division One, it was the Bears themselves, chasing 217 to win at York last month. A long, long way to go!

  7. 'Jof brought a tear to my eyes' - Jordanpublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

Sussex Chris Jordan admits that he felt emotional watching his Sussex and England team-mate Jofra Archer keep his nerve under pressure in last night's electrifying Lord's finale.

Jordan was the man who discovered his fellow Bajan back home in their native Barbados, before helping him to bring him to Sussex in 2016.

“I was sat there thinking regardless of what happens, I’m still very proud of him to have even got to this stage on that journey," Jordan told BBC Sussex.

“Watching Jof go through all that brought so many emotions. I found it hard to get my words out but it brought a tear to my eyes."

As to whether Lord's Archer would be the man for the job in what proved to be a Champagne Super Over, Jordan added: "He was the best person in that team to do the job.

"I'm not at all surprised. I called it from the start. He has plenty of variations and was the most fitting person for that final over. No occasion is too big for him.”

WICKET Abell c Tattersall b Fisher 53published at 16:40 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Yorkshire 520 v Somerset 196 & 101-3

A big wicket for Yorkshire as Somerset skipper Tom Abell is caught behind!

It's a second dismissal for Matthew Fisher as Jonny Tattersall takes the catch, and Abell goes for 52.

Somerset have gone from 89-0 to 101-3 and still need 223 runs just to make the Tykes bat again.

WICKET Bracey c Patterson b Bird 37published at 16:35 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

The Australians prise out a fourth wicket at Canterbury as Jackson Bird bags young Bristolian James Bracey.

Dom Sibley is joined at the crease by his Warwickshire team-mate Sam Hain.

With a great sense of both irony and coincidence, it comes just as Warwickshire's weakened batting line-up have begun a 401 run chase against Essex (and Simon Harmer) at Chelmsford.

How will the Bears fare without their two England Lions?

  11. wicket

WICKET Hildreth c Patterson b Maharaj 1published at 16:34 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Yorkshire 520 v Somerset 196 & 100-2

Yorkshire look back on track now!

After a long wait it's two wickets in two overs - James Hildreth caught at mid-off for one by Steven Patterson off the bowling of Keshav Maharaj.

Tom Abell has passed 50 but Somerset are 100-2, still trailing Yorkshire by 224 runs at Headingley.

Division Two leaders Lancashire avoid having to bat again to complete an innings victory over Sussex, who fall to their third defeat in a row.

A hundred for Delray Rawlins provided resistance for Sussex but Matt Parkinson finishes with 10 match wickets, with Graham Onions getting second-innings figures of 3-18 to help bowl the visitors out for 316.

The Red Rose take 23 points from the match, with Sussex taking just one bonus point.

WICKET Organ lbw Stevens 3published at 16:26 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Hampshire 409-9 dec & 7-1 v Kent 555

Darren Stevens might not be the quickest but his perfect line and length finds movement and sees off Hampshire opener Felix Organ.

The Hampshire opener goes for three and they're still 139 runs behind Kent's first-innings total.

  14. Declarationpublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Essex 245 & 316-9 dec v Warwickshire 161

We've spoken about it for a while and now finally Essex declare at Chelmsford, with Aaron Beard and Peter Siddle taking their lead over Warwickshire to 400.

Their second innings total is 316-9 - helped by notable contributions from Alastair Cook (83) and Dan Lawrence (74).

Can they do any damage to the Bears before close? They need an unlikely 401 to win.

  15. wicket

WICKET Azhar lbw Fisher 41published at 16:20 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Yorkshire 520 v Somerset 196 & 89-1

    Yorkshire have their breakthrough!

Somerset openers Tom Abell and Azhar Ali had frustrated them after being forced to follow on but finally the latter falls lbw to Matthew Fisher for 41.

The visitors trail by 235 and have nine wickets left, Abell on 48 and joined by James Hildreth.

  16. wicket

WICKET: Harmer c Banks b Patel 43published at 16:15 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Essex 245 & 299-9 v Warwickshire 161

    Simon Harmer gone too!

Essex may as well have declared at tea (they'll go and slog 20 more runs now) as both set batsmen have quickly departed.

Harmer joins Dan Lawrence back in the hutch as he's caught by Liam Banks off the bowling of Jeetan Patel.

  17. wicket

WICKET Lawrence c Ambrose b Rhodes 74published at 16:11 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Essex 245 & 299-8 v Warwickshire 161

Essex are having a swipe after tea. Simon Harmer smashed a six then Dan Lawrence looked to join in.

He's gone. An excellent 74 from the Essex batsman though, ended by a catch from wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose off the bowling of Will Rhodes.

Nine wickets in the match now for Rhodes.

  18. Virdi bowls Surrey to victorypublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

Surrey beat Nottinghamshire by 167 runs

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Amar Virdi spun Surrey to a convincing victory on the third afternoon at Trent Bridge. He took 6-78 as Notts were bowled out for 181 in their second innings. The spinner had quite a match after claiming 8-61 first time around. He won’t find many surfaces more conducive to his loopy, well-flighted, off-spin than this dry track.

Notts' Ravi Ashwin had almost gone toe-for-toe with Virdi but he had to be content with a match haul of 12-144 after taking six second-innings Surrey wickets.

In just three matches Ashwin has taken 23 wickets for Notts, an average of only 19 runs apiece, yet finished on the losing side each time.

Surrey take 20 points from this contest to move further away from their opponents, who collected just three bonus points, are cut adrift and look set for a return to Division Two.

  19. Hampshire start second inningspublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Hampshire 409-9 dec & 0-0 v Kent 555

Felix Organ and Ian Holland trudge out for hosts Hampshire as they begin their second innings, hoping to eat into a deficit of 146 runs.

Harry Podmore opens the bowling for Kent and beats Organ outside the off-stump with his second ball.

  20. SURREY BEAT NOTTS BY 167 RUNSpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 15 July 2019
    Breaking

    Surrey 240 & 224-9 dec, Nottinghamshire 116 & 181

Nottinghamshire are all out for 181 and champions Surrey secure an impressive win at Trent Bridge.

Gareth Batty takes the final wicket by having Zak Chappell caught by Will Jacks.

He finishes with three wickets, a way off team-mate Amar Virdi who finishes with 14 in the match - 8-61 in the first, 6-78 in the second.
