  1. Denly makes his case at Southamptonpublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Hampshire 409-9 dec v Kent 433-6

    Ben Watts
    Sports reporter, BBC Radio Kent

Joe Denly could have been in the dressing room at Lord’s with England’s victorious World Cup winners yesterday.

Instead, having been dropped from the provisional squad, the 33-year-old has been quietly building a case to retain the No.3 spot for the forthcoming Ashes series.

Eventually out lbw to an inswinger from Keith Barker with the new ball, Denly’s innings of 154 included 20 boundaries full of exquisite straight and cover drives as well as one six.

Having made 88 against Surrey at The Oval last week and 167 not out in Kent’s Tunbridge Wells win over Nottinghamshire, Denly has surely done everything he can to convince the England selectors that he’s the man to face the Australians next month.

  2. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Surrey 240 & 224-9 dec, Nottinghamshire 116 & 58-3

Surrey appear to be racing towards victory on day three. They quickly added 40 further before Rory Burns declared and have already eaten in to the Notts' batting by taking three wickets already.

  3. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Essex 245 & 169-4 v Warwickshire 161

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

A curious morning which saw Essex make steady progress despite, at one point, losing three wickets in the space of seven deliveries.

Sir Alastair Cook was particularly fluent with some trademark boundaries before getting out in the eighties for the second time in the match. He also made 80 here against Somerset and, as on that occasion, his contributions could prove vital.

Will Rhodes has continued his remarkable game with the ball. He removed Cook and Tom Westley in the same over and currently has match figures of 8-34.

Essex now lead by 253. They won't want to bat beyond tea.

  4. Lunch at Old Traffordpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Sussex 127 & 117-5, Lancashire 494-6 dec

Lancashire leg-spinner Matty Parkinson bowls recent England call-up Phil Salt for 37 at that is lunch at Old Trafford, a real blow for Sussex as he and Delray Rawlins (53) were going along nicely together. They're still 250 runs behind mind you.

  5. for Amar Virdipublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Surrey 240 & 224-9 dec, Nottinghamshire 116 & 47-3

It's Amar Virdi's 10-for! He's the second man to do in the match after Ravi Ashwin for Notts and the Surrey spinner looks almost certain to be on the winning side.

He raps Jake Libby on the pads after the opener went back to him. He's gone lbw for 21.

  6. 150 runs

150 for Essexpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Essex 245 & 154-4 v Warwickshire 161

After losing three wickets in seven balls Essex are settling things down again, Rishi Patel (8) and Dan Lawrence (7) taking them past the 150-mark.

They have a 238-run lead over Warwickshire with six wickets in hand, so the hosts remain well on top despite a great half-hour for the Bears.

There are no limits to what a World Cup triumph can do for the game.

Our Durham commentator Martin Emmerson reports "a lot more" spectators at Chester-le-Street today, having only had 490 fans in for Durham-Worcestershire yesterday.

  8. wicket

WICKET Moores lbw b Virdi 6published at 12:38 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Surrey 240 & 224-9 dec, Nottinghamshire 116 & 30-2

Amar Virdi doesn't stay out of the action for long after taking eight wickets in the first innings. He traps Tom Moores plum lbw.

    This match is moving on.

  9. for Keshav Maharajpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Yorkshire 520, Somerset 138-8

Keshav Maharaj has Steven Davies caught at slip to complete his five-for. What a signing the South African left-arm spinner has been for Yorkshire this summer.

It ends a stand of 35 between Davies and Jamie Overton and now the home side are properly in to the Somerset tail.

  10. wicket

WICKET Stewart b Edwards 0published at 12:31 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Hampshire 409-9 dec v Kent 417-6

Meanwhile at the Ageas Bowl, Kent's Grant Stewart has gone for a six-ball duck.

Fidel Edwards is too quick and pegs back two of his stumps.

Kent have passed Hampshire's first innings total, though, and are 417-6 with Darren Stevens now in alongside Heino Kuhn (62).

  11. wicket

WICKET Quinn c Ambrose b Patel 9published at 12:28 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Essex 245 & 139-4 v Warwickshire 161

Another one - this time it is nightwatchman Matt Quinn to go, and Warwickshire are building real momentum!

It was an unfashionable knock - scoring nine off 69 balls - but Quinn rightly gets applause despite slowing the Essex innings down somewhat.

A first wicket in this match for Warwickshire skipper Jeetan Patel - his 50th victim of the season.

Essex now have two new batsman in Dan Lawrence and Rishi Patel - they're 143-4 and 227 runs ahead.

  12. wicket

WICKET Crawley b Bird 15published at 12:27 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

Australian XI 397, England Lions 26-1

Zak Crawley loses his off stump to Jackson Bird at Canterbury.

And the Aussies make a breakthrough. The seventh wicket of the day already. Breathless stuff!

Exciting this cricket lark, isn't it (for any new readers we might have)?

  13. wicket

WICKET Westley c Ambrose b Rhodes 4published at 12:26 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Essex 245 & 139-3 v Warwickshire 161

Well, well, well... Will Rhodes has another wicket and it's new batsman Tom Westley, who is magnificently caught by Tim Ambrose.

  14. wicket

WICKET Cook lbw Rhodes 83published at 12:21 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Essex 245 & 135-2 v Warwickshire 161

    Warwickshire celebrateImage source, Rex Features

Not the wicket we expected to fall first - another fine Alastair Cook innings comes to a premature end.

The former England captain got 84 in the first innings for Essex and 83 this time, playing around a Will Rhodes delivery and being trapped lbw.

Rhodes has got Cook both times in the match, though Essex are still 135-2 - a lead of 219 - with Tom Westley joining nightwatchman Matt Quinn.

  15. Sibley & Crawley off to good startpublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

Australian XI 397, England Lions 25-0

The clatter of wickets appears to have stopped now at Canterbury.

After the Aussies lost their last six inside a Sam Curran-inspired hour, England Lions openers Zak Crawley and Dom Sibley have made a sound start,

25-0 inside five overs from Jackson Bird and Chris Tremain,

Kent's Crawley, on his home track, has made a fluent start with three boundaries.

The more watchful Sibley is taking his time, as usual, back at the ground where he made his career-best 244 just a fortnight ago.

  16. wicket

WICKET Slater c Smith b Morkel 0published at 12:14 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Surrey 240 & 184-7, Nottinghamshire 116 & 21-1

Surrey seamer Morne Morkel ends Ben Slater's painful 15 minutes at the crease as he's caught behind for a duck. Nine more needed for Notts.

  17. wicket

WICKET Robinson lbw Edwards 29published at 12:11 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Hampshire 409-9 dec v Kent 400-5

An important breakthrough for Fidel Edwards and Hampshire, as Kent had been going so well...

Just moments after Kent reach a full house of batting points by bringing up 400, a baffled Ollie Robinson is given lbw to Edwards having looked so comfortable.

Was there any bat on that? It's hard to tell even on the replay, but Robinson goes for 29 with Kent 400-5 and nine runs behind Hampshire.

  18. Quinn hanging about for Essexpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Essex 245 & 126-1 v Warwickshire 161

Will Essex rue the decision to put Matt Quinn in as nightwatchman last night? Probably not, but it's costing them some time here.

Quinn is mainly blocking and halting Alastair Cook's momentum, but the hosts are 126-1 in their second innings - a healthy lead of 210 runs over Warwickshire.

Can Essex up the pace soon?

    Surrey 240 & 224-9 dec, Nottinghamshire 116

Surrey captain and England opener Rory Burns says enough is enough lads and gestures Morne Morkel and Amar Virdi back to the pavilion.

Nottinghamshire have been set 349 to win.

    Good luck with that.
