Let's hope these two can put their differences side today for Essex.

  3. Play under waypublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    County Championship

We're getting started across the board.

All four Division One matches are going into day three, as well as three in Division Two.

Derbyshire v Northants is going into the second day, with Gloucestershire v Leicestershire just getting started - Leicestershire have won the toss and elected to bat.

  4. 'The pitch is nice for a spinner' - understatement of the yearpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Surrey 240 & 184-7, Nottinghamshire 116

Career-best figures of 8-61 by spinner Amar Virdi has put Surrey firmly on top against bottom club Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge, dismissing the hosts for just 116.

India's Ravichandran Ashwin then took 4-64 to reduce the champions to 184-7 at the close. But that leas is 308.

"It's nice to be back in the team and I'm happy to contribute. The pitch is nice for spinner so it's not a bad first game to have (this season)," Virdi told BBC Radio London.

"Yesterday I struggled with my rhythm but this morning I knew I'd probably have to bowl a lot of overs, and I felt far better.

"It's a relief to be back playing. It was tough being on the sidelines, watching the boys playing but everything happens for a reason and hopefully I can now stay in the team going forward.

"Obviously we want to get as many runs as we can now and then get going with the ball tomorrow."

Essex's Australian fast bowler Peter Siddle took 5-33 - including a burst of four wickets in five overs - to put them on top against Warwickshire.

Defending their previous day's score of 245, Essex made an inexperienced Bears batting line-up buckle to 33-4 - bowling them out for 161.

Essex then closed on 73-1 to go into day three with a lead of 157 runs.

"We're in a pretty good spot. We'll bat for as long as we can and take it to a position where we can't lose the game. You always want to give them as hard a chase as you can. Time will possibly come into it as well," said Essex fast bowler Matt Quinn.

"I'm looking forward to batting with Alastair Cook in the morning. I'll be playing for a bit of pride - I won't want to get out like an idiot. I'll have a look in the morning and see how we go."

  6. 'All year I've found ways to get out'published at 10:55 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Yorkshire 520 v Somerset 76-4

Yorkshire are in a dominant position against Somerset thanks to centuries from Gary Ballance, Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Harry Brook helping them to 520 in their first innings. They then reduced the home side to 76-4 at the close.

It was Kohler-Cadmore's first hundred of the campaign.

"I'm delighted to contribute in this game more than I have in recent weeks. But the main thing is getting a score for the team, and we're now in a good position to win.

"I haven't changed anything, I just stayed out there for longer! All year, I've just found ways to get out. But this time I was watchful, and got through."

  7. Denly ton helps Kent prosper against Hampshirepublished at 10:52 British Summer Time 15 July 2019

    Hampshire 409-9 dec v Kent 319-3

    Joe DenlyImage source, Rex Features

Joe Denly enhanced his England Test credentials with an unbeaten 138 as Kent took advantage of a batsman-friendly pitch against Hampshire.

The Kent captain steered his side to 319-3 in reply to Hampshire's 409-9 declared as he and Daniel Bell-Drummond (94) added 206 for the third wicket.

"Joe Denly is in good form. The hundred at Tunbridge Wells got him going for the summer and we all know how good a player he is. Fingers crossed he gets that big call-up," said Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens, who himself bagged his 23rd County Championship five-for.

"I told him he can bat all day if he wants. He'll need to start again in the morning to help put more runs on the board and build a nice lead."
