  1. Aus 201-8published at 65 overs

Peter Siddle swivels it round the corner for a single that takes Australia to 200, which seemed very unlikely at 122-8.

Patient, proper batting from this pair. It's not the best watch but it's effective.

England short of ideas. Cue the camera cutting to Jofra Archer having some food in the dug out.

  3. Aus 198-8published at 64 overs

    Smith 76, Siddle 41

Joe Denly does get a bit of drift and lands it on a decent enough length to keep Peter Siddle honest. That's a maiden.

It's a bit odd to see Denly bowl part-time leg-spin to a set Siddle, given the run of wickets we've had earlier today, mind.

Umpire Aleem Dar is fortunately OK.

    On we go.

Oh hello - Joe Denly is going to bowl some leg-spin...

You have got to admire Smith. It is like having a golf swing like Jim Furyk. It works for him. He knows his areas. If you don't get him out early he sucks people into bowling straight. They think they'll get him lbw but they can't. You have to stick to bowling fourth or fifth stump.

    You have to admire him.

Steve Tredup: Never bowled a ball in my life, but if the ball has gone oval and you bowl it cross-oval, might it not turn sharply if it bounces on one of the oval ends?

Oh dear. They are actually taking drinks now because umpire Aleem Dar has been stung by a wasp or a bee and needs treatment.

You have got to bowl in the corridor outside off stump. Have a bit of patience. It is not doing much. On the whole even if tailenders are playing well after a bit of time they get careless.

  10. Aus 198-8published at 63 overs

Peter Siddle taps off his pads and takes a risky single.

Chris Woakes picks up at mid-wicket and takes aim at the stumps with Steve Smith in danger.

He misses and Smith's dive may have seen him home in time anyway.

  11. Aus 197-8published at 62.5 overs

Peter Siddle sends a thick edge past gully for a couple more. And he nudges through the gap again. Two again.

England need to find what brand of banana Peter Siddle hoovers down and buy a load for Rory Burns and Jason Roy.

Peter Siddle definitely ate his bananas this morning.

  14. Aus 193-8published at 62 overs

England again ask for the ball to be changed. Again their request is turned down.

Totum: I remember finding it much funnier when Leach was knocking it around last week than I seem to find Siddle doing it.

  16. Aus 193-8published at 61.1 overs

Stuart Broad draws an edge from Peter Siddle but it deflects beyond the dive of second slip and Jonny Bairstow ends up diving to make the stop near the fence to keep it to three.

He's even a brilliant boundary fielder when he's keeping.

This is hurting England. They have done so well but this is frustrating and then you go searching for magic balls.

It doesn't happen and they pick off.

Jofra Archer has never played a Test for England.

But you can't help but feel England are missing him here.

A bowler capable of launching it down at over 90mph and with plenty of variations is not something any tail would like to face.

Of course, the absence of James Anderson is also costing the hosts here too.

England need to have a little team talk because mentally they have switched off here. There are a few hands on hips.
